Just an Image

Rose let her tears fall freely. The beach on which she stood was beautiful, magnificent in its grey glory on that stormy afternoon; waves crashed with all the fury of nature. Before her, the image of The Doctor wavered in the strong wind. He had very little time left. And in that time, Rose begged, silently, that he would do what he hadn't done in more than a year that they had spent together.

"Rose Tyler," he began, the cliff rocks visible through the image of his face. "I'm sorry. You don't know what it's like, in my head. I go on, I live for hundreds of your generations. You can't. How can I possibly…"

She hadn't the strength to argue with him anymore. He was there, and soon he would be gone, and she'd never see him again. The concept was too much to wrap her head around. She still believed he could take her with him, free her from this place. He was The Doctor, he could do anything.

His image faded to a spectre. Rose felt her heart break. It shook inside her chest and took her voice away. Please, Doctor, please.

He looked at Rose, tears washing her lovely face. This was his fault, he never should have allowed it to happen. He'd put her in harm's way, and now they were both paying the price. And the one thing she asked of him, the only thing he could still do for her, was destroying him. Because what difference did it make, it was over now, even if he did love her…

"…with all my heart…"

The Tardis lost power then, the Doctor's image faded, and both he and Rose were left alone with their memories.
