Prologue

The house phone rang twice before Sawada Nana picked it up.

Originally, she was tending to the laundries for her son, Tsunayoshi, and herself. The boy had a habit of just dumping his clothes on the ground of his bedroom right after he gets in there after school, so she had to sort and separate his white clothing from his colored as well. Although most mothers would nag to their son about this sloppy behavior, Nana tolerated it. It mostly gave her something to do around the house. And also, she knew all-too-well that he will forget about it overtime. She was getting tired of wasting words.

But what worried her though was how extremely dirty his clothes would get. She knew that her boy did not participate in any clubs, especially the athletic sort, but he still came home covered in dry mud. At first she assumed it was nothing that Tsuna may have found a friend and this was just boys being boys. (After all, Tsuna did use to love rolling around in the mud when he was an infant.) But when she started noticing bruises behind his uniform, and even found specks of dry blood on them, that was where she crossed the line.

Nana confronted Tsuna immediately about the bullying, but the boy was surprisingly stubborn. Tsuna didn't want her to get hurt for being involved with his problem, and she could understand how that could burden him. And yet, stubborn ran in both their bloods. She suggested calling the school about it, though he told her that the school won't help much. She recalled Tsuna talking about the disciplinary committee and suggested them, but the boy flat-out declined. He says he doesn't want anymore attention drawn to himself. After several other failed persuasion she eventually turns to her husband Iemitsu (without the knowing of her son), who was currently working out of the country on oil fields. Only, Iemitsu ended up recommending-

"Hello, this is Sawada Nana speaking." Nana greeted softly, eloquent and proper.

"Nana-chan! As your devilishly handsome husband I have called to say that the tutors will be there around noon. So be sure to welcome them with your oh-so-very delicious cooking! They'll love it. I mean, who in their right mind wouldn't love your cooking?" Iemitsu continued to ramble on with compliments, and Nana couldn't help to blush. "Now, if they ever so lay a hand on you—"

"Please, Iemitsu. I'm too old for that stuff! Besides, I love you too much." She could hear husband squeal in approval, which made her grin happily. "I'll be sure to make a feast for our new guests. It'll all be like a family!"

"Your beauty will never fade, Nana-chan! And the same goes for our love." Nana then heard someone on the other end yell about getting back to work. She immediately knew who that person was talking to. "Ahhh~ Looks like I can't stay to express more of my love for you… But have no fear! I'll call you tonight." He cooed. "Take good care of our guests. And say hi to our cute little Tsuna for me as well!"

"Yes, yes. Be careful at work." Those were her last words to him before she heard a click.

Putting the phone back into place, she decided to quickly return to the laundry. So with that chore out of the way, she could get started on cooking a meal fit for nine people.
