A/N: Happy Tenth Anniversary, Wicked!
"Elphie?" Glinda's voice rang through the empty halls of Kiamo Ko as Dorothy and her companions dispersed. Just outside the windows the winds howled reflecting the chaos that had just ensued in the castle.
"Glinda? Are you still here?" The weak reply came, and of course, Glinda recognized it even though it was cloaked by so much pain. She found the source of the voice as soon as possible, her hand flying to her mouth at the sight before her.
"Oh Elphie…" Glinda muttered, kneeling beside her friend. She gently slipped her hand into hers, slowly but surely locking their fingers together. She squeezed the green witch's hand as tears rose to her eyes.
Elphaba's dress pooled around her, it seemed as though she were halfway sunken through the floor, blistered covered her body and she grit her teeth holding back the cries of pain. Her skin was covered in red nasty blisters, her clothes were drenched, water seeping through to her sensitive skin. Dark chocolate eyes stared into clear blue.
"Elphie… you're melting…" Glinda stated the obvious, eyes sparkling.
Elphaba chuckled and shook her head as she cracked a painful smile. "Some people are worth melting for."
Glinda dissolved into tears after that, her skirt swayed as she sat on the cold ground, collecting the dirt and grime that had resided there for years. "Careful, Glin… you'll get your dress dirty." Elphaba commented, raising an eyebrow at her friend.
"Elphie! You really think I could care about that... y-you're literally melting! Right before my eyes! Please forgive me, for everything… this is all my fault. I'm so sorry… I'm so sorry, Elphie…" Glinda's crying slowed into seizing breathes. She wrapped her arms around Elphaba's slim shoulders and buried her head into her silk-like hair. "Nessa… Fiyero… everything… it's all because of me."
Pain flashed in Elphaba's eyes. "I know." She stated bluntly, but continued. "But I also know you didn't mean for any of this to happen." Elphaba's dress almost fully engulfed her up to her upper torso. There wasn't much time left, and they both knew it. "And I want you to know that I never meant to hurt you… when… when Fiyero came with me. Chose me instead."
"I know… and I also know now… I never really loved him. And that I was truly happy for you two while it lasted…"
"Good, than I can at least go knowing I'm forgiven…" Elphaba shut her eyes and let out a strangled sigh. "Leave Glinda… now, before someone comes back." She said quickly.
They both heard muffled footsteps approaching. Both Elphaba's and Glinda's heart skipped a beat, and a single tear ran down Glinda's face and into her lap. "No… let me stay at least- at least until you're gone…" Elphaba shook her head sadly and gasped in another breath of air, pain shooting her spine.
"It's too dangerous, there's no time. Go- now!" She commanded forcefully but in a hushed tone. Elphaba threw a glance over her shoulder and tugged her hands away from Glinda's. "Go! Please! You're only making this harder for both of us!" She hissed.
Glinda shakily got to her feet and rushed to the heavy wooden door on the other side of the room. When she looked one last time over her shoulder Elphaba had already gone, only her dress remaining.
Glinda chocked back a sob as she slipped away into the night.
