Snakes and Ladders

Atobe loved playing games, especially when he knew he'd win.

He loved long and strenuous matches with Oshitari and Jiroh. Or even Shishido. It strengthened him. It drove him to do better. It made him live.

He loved board games, especially Scrabble. It sharpened his mind. It made him smarter, if that was even possible.

He loved card games. As if it wasn't be obvious, he'd outsmart everyone and win. It had always been like that.

Atobe loved playing games, even if he knew he wouldn't win.

He loved chasing Fuji around the park, going up and down the slide just to catch the said tensai.

He loved racing with Fuji, managing to get more items in the department store in less time.

He loved cradling Fuji to sleep. It was a difficult task, but he'd succeed. He knew that all too well.

The thing was, he and Fuji never did play a game. They existed in a certain plane where millions of people exist, yet only the two of them actually matter to each other.

Or at least that was how Atobe wanted it to be.

He twirled Fuji's hair in between his fingers as the tensai snuggled a bit closer to him.

Somehow, just by being beside Fuji… Somehow, by just seeing Fuji like this…

It hurt somewhere in his chest.

In his heart.
