chapter 1; a world i never expected to meet
I haven't even had to open my eyes to know that Butercup's hiss explained my day already. Strained, morbid, and hideous, and especially today since today was the day of the reaping. The only thing that made me the least bit happy was the fact that I know I've done everything i can to keep prim safe. I opened my eyes to see her cacooned into my mothers bed with the woman I can barely consider a mother. I pull on a pair of trousers, my late fathers hunting jacket and my only pair of boots and walk out of my small home and to the fence to go hunting with Gale.I hope he can actually stay focused today though, because recently, he's been un-focused and has been scaring game away. I cant even tell what he's been thinking and thats weird becayse usually I can always tell. We just think alike,we must walk alike too because while thinking I didn't notice Gale walking near me until we ran into each other.

"whoa there Catnip, beter watch it before you squish the bread." Gale said as he helped me back up and pulled a loaf of bread out of is torn up bag he uses to keep his game in.

"Gale! How did you get this!" I exclaimed. Real bread from the bakery is expensive.

He told me "I traded a squirrel for it, the ol' Mellark must have been feeling generous today. Or maybe it was because he knew knowing you, you would refuse to pay less than usuall and go back there with a squirrel shot right through the eye like usuall."

I felt like he was teasing me so i became slightly defensive in our banter when I responded "maybe I'll let it slide for today"

We both decided that it was time to hunt so we did untill we had enough game that could last a week, we always try to get a lot of game before the games just incase one of us was picked our family would have enough food to last. After we hunted for a while we sat down in the meadow in peace until we both decided to talk.

"Gale..."
"Katniss..."

Gale said before I got the chance to "No, you go first."
so I told him "Gale, I want you to know something..."
"what?" He said with a spark of hope gleaming in his eye.
I was really scared to admit this but I have a fealing that something realy big was going to hapen so I need to tell him the truth.
"I love you Gale, more than just like a sibling, im sorry to put this on you but..."
I got interupted by gales lips on mine but only for a short amount of time for the horn blew signaling everyone had to be in the square in an hour. Gale got up and ran home but not before wispering in my ear.

"i love you too"
