Author's Note - Howdy! :) This is just a short fic I was inspired to write. I don't own Pixar or Toy Story (sadly). Hope you like it, and please R&R!

It was late at night, and Jessie was curled up in the toy box, thinking.

She had come so far within the two months of being at Andy's. After settling in, the other toys welcomed her as a part of the family. She felt like she belonged somewhere again, when before she only knew the loneliness and darkness of being in storage. It almost made up for Emily's abandoning her.

The thought of Emily stung her inside, still. Maybe it was because she was her first owner, and a toy never forgot the memories of their initial playtimes. The young Emily would live on in her heart, even if the real one was grown up and gone.

She was interrupted from her thoughts when Bullseye stirred in his sleep, breathing softly. His ear twitched, two or three times. He must have been dreaming.

In the soft green light emitting from Buzz, all her friends looked peaceful and happy. Today had been an especially busy one, with Andy just having gotten out of school, and everyone was tired from play. Her eyes wandered back to the space ranger, and a small smile crossed her face. Of all her new friends, she thought she liked him the best. With just a grin and a flip of her hair, she had him wrapped around her finger.

In the quietness, a new thought startled her. She used to read Emily's discarded romance novels while she lay under her bed, and wondered if Buzz's behavior had a cause. Did he have special feelings for her? Was that why he always stuttered and blushed around her, making her feel like a beauty queen? Or was it just a temporary infatuation like Emily's that would leave some day and hurt her if she trusted it?

She frowned. Woody had shown her that a toy could be as selfless as anything. But then there were others like Stinky Pete, who only wanted what they could get out of life.

Letting out a small sigh, she peered out through the crack of the lid and stared up at the window. Just then, a meteor streaked across the sky, leaving a trail of star dust in its wake.

Jessie closed her eyes, secretly making a wish. A wish that her heart would heal; a wish that she could learn to trust others again, and maybe even find a special someone.

Before she drifted off to sleep, she saw Buzz's sparkling blue eyes in the back of her mind. She knew instantly that whatever thoughts were hidden behind those orbs could not be malicious, and decided she could believe him. For now, he would be a trustworthy friend – but deep inside, she hoped it wouldn't end there.
