It had been several years since the elder man had retired and many more since the children had moved out. Sighing he sat back in his chair and looked at the picture beside him and smiled softly as a tear ran down his cheek. Holding the photograph to his chest he let his eyes close as he thought back to when the man in the picture was still alive.
He hadn't thought about him in so long, knowing that if he did he probably wouldn't be able to focus on anything else, but now that his time was almost up he let his guard down and remembered when they first met.
Hijikata knew that his body was failing him and that it was almost time to meet his husband once more. He felt as if the other was in the room and opened his eyes only to find that he was still alone.
Frowning slightly he got up and stared out the window as he drank a cup of tea before heading upstairs. He just sat on the bed for a moment as he ran his fingers through his hair, removing the hair tie that he placed on the bedside table in front of a picture that was very similar to the one he had downstairs.
He showered and got dressed before laying in bed, smiling slightly as he looked over at the photograph. "Thank you…" He said softly, reaching over to turn off the lamp before rolling over and falling asleep. He dreamt that he was with his husband once more and at the end they walked away together, leaving everything else behind
The next day around noon his son came over, only to find that the man had passed away in his sleep the night before. The small smile remained on the elder mans face and Hisoka new that they were together at last after so long.
