A/N: Felt the need to write something sad, and because I love these two so much I guess it was inevitable. Kakashi seemed to find it amusing that I felt Sasuke should be the one to kill him rather than someone like Anko, though I don't think he appreciated how I 'outed' he and Gai's friendship. On a less happy note, I don't think Sasuke will be speaking with me for a while. Enjoy!

"Sasuke."
Kakashi's breath catches in his throat, slimy and wet, and his eyes widen.
Sasuke doesn't move for a long time, his hand iron-tight on the grip of the sword through the man's chest.
Kakashi doesn't move either, he just stands there.
"Die."
Sasuke snarls, twists the blade before shoving in even further, and this time the Hatake chokes, stumbles back a step, lets his knees tremble ever so slightly. His arms hang by his sides, bloody and useless, and he doesn't try to make a move as he stares right into Sasuke's eyes.
Right into his soul.
"Die!" Sasuke says it again, spits it out angrily as he draws the sword out before hovering the point two inches down and slamming it in again.
"Sasuke."
Kakashi says his name quietly, his voice thick, and Sasuke can see the blood pooling around his tongue.
"I'm sorry Sasuke."
"Just die!" Sasuke shouts this time, and his voice is almost desperate.
His heart pounds in his chest, and as the adrenaline starts to lessen he can feel his mind starting to think again.
He just stabbed Kakashi.
He feels a warm hand touch his cheek, and he stares as Kakashi's mouth, long uncovered, slips into the saddest frown Sasuke had ever seen.
His eyes are stuck between self-loathing and a disgusting pity.
"I've failed you… Sasuke…"
"Kakashi… Die!" Sasuke finds it hard to speak, his words aren't strong or angry or even sad.
They're just blank.
"Say goodbye to- to Gai for me-"
The body fell into his arms before he was ready, and Sasuke finds himself on the ground, the man slumped on top of him and bleeding all over him.
Kakashi's silver hair is sticky and wet with sweat and blood, and the look on his face is now one of only exhaustion.
Their chests are touching and their faces are so close together Sasuke can hear the man's breaths beginning to wheeze and die out.
"Sensei?"
His voice is timid and small and weak, but he can only bring up his hands to the man's pale face and turn it in his direction.
Sasuke barely notices the blood dribbling onto his face.
His mind is still reeling, and all he can think are three words, over and over and over again.
I killed Kakashi.
I killed Kakashi.
I.
Killed.
Kakashi.
"Sensei?"
They aren't tears in his eyes, the fatigue is just getting to him so he can't see straight.
He isn't crying.
"Wake up… Kakashi…"
His breathing is gone now, but Sasuke can't stop hoping somehow, can't stop wishing.
He brings his arms around the man and hugs him to his chest and they lie there, on the blood-soaked earth, and for some unfathomable reason Sasuke can't push him off.
Time passes.
His corpse gets cold to the touch.
Sasuke can't bring himself to move.
What seems like hours later shouting comes, and he notices in the darkness tall people moving closer.
They all freeze.
There's shouting, there's yelling. Sasuke feels himself pulled from the ground roughly before being thrown back, he feels his arms wrenched behind him and he feels a strong hard punch to the face.
He could have fought back, but he couldn't.
"Kakashi-sensei, wake up!"
Sasuke isn't even sure who's screaming, if it's him or the blonde or the female huddled over the man, her hair glowing purple in the moonlight.
More pain comes, quick and sharp across his cheek, and his vision begins to blur.
"Give him back you bastard! Give him back!"
Sasuke isn't crying.
