When You're Gone
Two years had passed since Terra had disappeared. The Titans had found a girl who looked like Terra but denied being her. Beast Boy had been so full of hope that day. He had thought he could be next to the one he loved again. But perhaps it was never meant to be.
After the incident with the Terra look-alike Beast Boy had been encouraged by the other Titans to take up a hobby, something that would ease his mind from stressful thoughts and allow him peace of mind when it wondered towards Terra. At first his heart had not been into it at all but over time he had taken a greater interest in his search for a hobby. Thus he began getting piano lessons from a local teacher. Amazingly Beast Boy had picked up in weeks what took others months, even years! And so whenever Beast Boy came across a really stressful situation, he would always go into his head and play piano.
Eventually the Titans had bought him a grand piano for him to play aloud, and had placed it in a specially built room adjacent to his quarters. Every morning and every night he would walk over to it and play away his sorrows. For the most part Beast Boy had moved on with his life and had started dating Raven, but every so often he would come across a day where he could think of nothing but Terra.
And so winter came and brought about one especially chilly night. By now everyone else was in bed: except for Beast Boy. He was lying on his bed, tears falling from his eyes at a steady rate. He had just woken up from a particularly depressing dream about Terra. Forcing himself to do something about it he walked over to the door and went to his piano. Sitting down at the bench he began to play a bittersweet melody he had heard on the radio recently. Soon he began to add his own voice to the mix:
"I've never felt this way before;
Everything that I do reminds me of you.
And the clothes you left, they lie on the floor,
And they smell just like you, I love the things that you do.
When you walk away I count the steps that you take,
Do you see how much I need you right now."
He was about to start the chorus when he heard the door open. Turning around he saw Raven walk in, along with Robin, Starfire, and Cyborg. Raven walked over to Beast Boy and sat down beside him. She gave him a sad but understanding smile and kissed him on the cheek. Beast Boy smiled back and a tear of happiness fell from his eye. He started up where he had left off, and smiled when his friends and team mates joined in with him:
"When you're gone,
The pieces of my heart are missing you.
When you're gone,
The face I came to know is missing too.
When you're gone,
The words I need to hear,
To always get me through the day,
and make it ok.
I miss you."
