"*sniff* *sniff* *sniff* Why? Why am I not good enough?" A blond haired boy asked himself. He sits upon the empty cold floor in a dark alleyway in the middle of night. Only wearing torn clothes, can show that he lives in a dark lifestyle.
"I'm not weak, I'm not weak, I'm not weak." The boy kept repeating those words from his mouth endlessly. With bags under his eyes, shows that he hasn't gotten any sleep either. It was until then he heard something starting to approach him. Upon hearing the noises, the blond quickly hid behind a dumpster to avoid being seen.
As he hid, he peeked his head to see who was coming, only to see a large shadow. But the shadow wasn't human. It was like a monster. But it kept coming towards him.
"N-No, it can't be a grimm. They couldn't come in the city." The boy was shaken beyond belief. With no self-defense, the boy embraced himself, feeling that his life will end.
*Woof!* *Woof!*
"Huh?" The boy looked down to his leg, only to see a dog looking up to him.
*Woof!*
The boy looked back to see if the shadow was there, but it disappeared. Looking back at the dog, he could only slightly laugh to himself. "Were you the thing that I saw?" The dog kept barking as if it was happy. After barking, the dog jumped on the boy's face and started licking him.
"H-Hey! Down boy!" The boy was pushed down on his back due to the size of the dog and the force from it. The dog kept licking his face as it's tail was wagging. After a few minutes of the dog licking his face, the dog got off of him.
"*Sigh* Now I have to take an extra shower tonight. Let's see, do you have a owner?" The boy looked on the dog to see if it had a collar but, it didn't have one. The dog was still wagging its tail only to stop. But as the boy was confused, the dog looked at the direction where it came from and started barking.
"What's wrong?" The boy turned to look in the same direction as the dog, only to see a young girl standing there. The boy's spine shivered slightly, as he never noticed that someone was staring at him the entire time.
"..." The girl said nothing as she kept staring at the boy and the dog.
"Um, is this your dog?" The boy asked.
"...No…" The girl silently spoke to him, but he was still able to hear her. The boy gulped nervously as he felt something wrong.
"T-Then do you need something?" The hesitation from his voice proved that he was slightly shaken from her.
"...Why are you alone?" The girl asked.
"B-Because I wanted to be alone for a bit." As the boy answered, the girl started to walk towards him.
"...Do you have friends?" The girl asked.
"Y-Yeah! I have lots of them!" The boy yelled.
"...Are you lying?" The girl asked. Flinching slightly, the boy backed away a bit, seeing that she was close to his face.
"N-No of course not!" He yelled while backing away.
"...Okay…...I want to be your friend…." The girl said standing there. But now that the boy noticed, the girl was in fact his height with blond hair and blue eyes. But her eyes….her eyes were dull. It showed no light. Her eyes matched the tone of her voice….emotionless.
"..Why? Why be with a friend like me?" The boy asked her.
"...You lied….." The girl said. The boy flinched again with shocked eyes.
"I knew you didn't have friends based on your reactions. Seeing you sit here was sad, so I decided to come here and talk." Her emotionless face slightly showed a small smile.
"...Why? So you can laugh at me? Laugh at how stupid I look? To say how weak I look?" The boy's voice was slightly raising due to the bad memories he had with his life.
"...No…" The girl said. Shocked, the boy couldn't grasp at what was going on.
"Wh-What? What do you mean no?" He asked her in disbelief.
"...No means no. I won't make fun of you. I want to be friends with you. I don't have any friends. Most people don't like the way my eyes look." Even while explaining her bad past, she still kept her emotionless face.
"..." The boy was silent for the time being. He didn't know that there would be someone else sharing a similar kind of pain as him. But finally making up his mind, he spoke out.
"Alright. I'll be your friend." The boy said.
"Really?" The girl asked. Her face seemed to break out of her emotionless facade and replace it with hope.
"Yeah, I'll be sure to the bestest friend of all best friends." The boy said while putting his arms up. The girl showed a small smile again hearing his words.
"That doesn't make any sense." The girl said while smiling.
"Don't think to much into it." He said. Minutes passed for the two children. They talked for long periods of time and didn't care for how long it lasted. But as long they wanted to keep their conversations going, time wasn't on their side.
Noticing that it was becoming more darker, the boy narrowed his eyes to his watch on his arm. "Oh crap, I didn't know that I would be gone for this long!" He yelled with shock.
"Are you going now?" She asked him with the same tone she used when she first spoke. Rubbing the back of his head and laughing nervously, the boy could only apologize.
"I'm sorry, it's just that I can't keep my parents waiting. I kind of told them that I was heading out for a little fresh air." He said while laughing. But the girl only looked even more emotionless.
"Is there something wrong?" He asked noticing that the girl was visibly saddened even if she didn't show it.
"Can we keep in touch?" She asked him looking into his eyes. Her dull blue eyes were the exact opposite of the boy's bright blue one's.
"Of course we can, why wouldn't we? We're supposed to be best friends." He said showing off a smile.
"Do you promise?" She asked, taking a step closer to him.
"Yup!" He said excitingly. He noticed that she was getting closer to him, but in his mind, he was thinking of how friends are usually like this.
"Do you swear to god?" She was becoming a little more anxious to hear his answers. But he never lost his smile to her, he kept it up.
"...Hey, can you do me a favor?" He asked being a little quiet before answering.
"Yes, what is it?" As she asked him that, the boy used his two index fingers and poked the end of her lips on both sides.
"Smile a bit more. Smile, and I'll swear as much as you want." He said, while moving the corner of her lips into a smile, or something comparable to it.
"Alright, if that's what make you swear, then I'll keeping smiling." She said smiling after he moved his fingers.
"Okay, We'll be together forever, I swear to god we will." He said. Hearing that, the girl's smile looked even more bright.
"Thank you, this means so much to me." She said.
"Alright then, I gotta go. By the way, what's your name?" He asked getting ready to leave.
"It's Rachel. Rachel Gardner. And what's your name?" She responded. Moving himself to the moon's bright light, the boy pointed himself with excitement.
"It's Jaune Arc, nice to meet you Rachel!" He was very happy that there wasn't someone who didn't hate him. Even if he's weak, he has someone else that he wants to protect. Running along the path he followed to his house, he could only think about the fun things they could do in the future.
"..." After Jaune left, Rachel stared into the moonlight wondering about many things. One of them was the blond boy that she started to grow attached to. She moved her hands to her chest as if she was praying, and spoke even if he couldn't hear her.
"Bye Jaune!" She yelled in the direction he ran to. Rachel kept her smile and never wanted it to go. After meeting Jaune, she discovered that even she, isn't the only person in the world that isn't lonely.
*Woof* *Woof*
Seeing that the dog that Jaune was petting was still there, Rachel wanted to pet it. 'He was so friendly to this dog. Even if it wasn't his, he kept close to it like it was. Maybe, just maybe-'
*Bite*
'It bit me.' Seeing that the dog bit her hand, Rachel's smile was gone. The only thing that the dog could see as it began to whimper, was the dull, lifeless eyes began to look at it.
In a blue room, with nothing but the moonlight embracing it, blue eyes opened. Blood on the floor. A blonde haired male was laying on the floor with bandages on his head. The male felt dizzy because of his pain. He didn't remember what happened. He couldn't remember. He doesn't remember.
"Wha? What is this place?" The blonde male asked only but himself. Trying to remember only caused his head to hurt. He stopped to not feel anymore pain, but what he needed to know, was where was he?
"How did I even get here? No, did I come here? No, I couldn't have, I must've been brought here. This doesn't make sense. Seeing around the room, there was nothing in it. Only the bright blue moon that was showed out the window.
"It's night time? How long was I even long out for?" He said holding his head with his hand. But seeing that just standing there wouldn't be better for him, he saw a door leading out.
As he left the room, a dark hallway was the only thing awaiting him. Gulping his saliva down, he started to walk down the hallway. After walking down the hallway, he was awaited with a typewriter on a table.
"A typewriter? Aren't there any other things to use like a- huh? Like a what exactly? I know something is better than this but, what was it called?" The male kept wondering what he had forgotten about for some time.
"Hm? What's with this wall?" The male had seen a wall with a horizontal crack between it as if it could be opened.
"Maybe this a hidden wall? Like in the movies! There has to be a switch somewhere-" Before the blond could say his last word, the typewriter was typing on it's own. Noticing it, the blond moved towards it, to see what was going on with it. As he did, the paper above it, showed a question.
Why are you here?
"Um, I don't remember. I kind of woke up here." He responded. As much as felt like this was wrong, he decided to keep going with it.
Why?
"Why what?" He asked it.
Why don't you remember?
"I think someone hit my head. I can't tell. Everything is very fuzzy. But I want to get out of here."
Why?
"Why? Because I don't know anything about this place." The male was confused as to why it would ask that.
If you left, would you still remember where you are?
"Th-That's-" The blond didn't know what to say. It had a point, where would he go if he doesn't have any memory about anything?
What is your name?
"I-It's Jaune Arc."
How old are you?
"I'm 18"
Why not stay here?
"Wha?" Jaune didn't know what to say, he was being asked to stay in a unfamiliar place with no memory.
Let's say if you hated the world? What if it hated you? Would you still accept it? You have nowhere to go.
"Stop!" Jaune yelled. Fortunately, the typewriter stopped on it's next question. It was really like someone was actually talking to him.
"I would never hate the world. I might not remember what happened to me but, I can't accept that. Even if hated me, I would prove it wrong." Jaune eyes was filled with determination. He didn't want to listen to a stupid typewriter tell him false information.
You are interesting. You are very interesting.
Before he responded, the wall that he was looking at earlier, was opened. Behind the wall, was a elevator shaft. Seeing that it was opened he started to walk towards it.
"So this was a hidden door. But someone opened it. I might not be alone in here." As Jaune entered the elevator, he heard a buzz around him.
"The male at the bottom floor is not a sacrifice, I repeat not a sacrifice. However, he is selected to be captured. Bruised, dead or alive. Please begin preparations on each floor."
"What's going on?" Jaune asked himself, as the elevator door closed. As the doors closed, Jaune felt himself moving up.
"Captured? Dead? N-No this has to be a nightmare. This just has to be." Jaune closed his eyes and opened them again and figured that this situation of his, was not a nightmare. But after a few minutes in the elevator, Jaune was able to calm himself down from all the anxiety.
'The announcer said bottom floor. Then to get out of here, I guess I have to go up to get out then.' Jaune's thoughts were interrupted as the elevator came to a stop. As the doors opened, the only thing he sees, is a city-like are.
"A city? How big even this place?" Jaune asked himself as he left the elevator. Upon leaving it, the doors closed.
"I guess I can't go back now." Jaune started to walk around aimlessly, to hopefully find another elevator. But as he continued to walk around, he found himself in a alleyway, and felt himself being watched.
"Huh?" Upon turning around, there was a tall male looking at him with a creepy looking smile.
Looking at his arm, he was holding a giant pole. But the male kept his creepy smile on Jaune.
"So you're the guy that needs to be captured huh?" The asked him.
"U-Um, I think there's a misunderstanding, I just want to leave. Do you know you're way out?" Jaune asked him. But to Jaune's surprise, the male started to laugh maniacally.
"Do you really think I'll let you escape? You must be fucking insane." The male said. As the male continued to laugh, he started to walk to Jaune's vision to get a clear look at him. The male wore a brown hoodie with a massive stain at the bottom of it. His entire body was covered in bandages, but the only thing Jaune could see, was his mouth and eyes. But what was more strange, the pole that he was holding, was actually a scythe with blood dripping from it.
"Now because I'm feeling good, I'll give you 5 seconds, run away or I'll catch ya! You don't wanna die do ya!?" After hearing his signal, Jaune started to run immediately.
Getting out of his field of vision, Jaune kept running and running until he found the elevator. But trying to get some time to breathe, he heard laughing coming behind him.
Not thinking, Jaune headed into a room where there was closets and chests in the room. Having no choice, he decided to hide inside the closet.
"Where are you, you little shit?" The bandaged male came inside the room. Jaune kept his hand over his mouth to stop his breath from being heard.
"Are you in this one!?" The male slashed his scythe on a chest, destroying the entire thing completely. After seeing him destroy many things due to the crack in the door, he was trying to think of a way to get out of this mess.
But before he could try to think of anything, the male looked at the closet that he was in. "Tch, maybe this one."
Before the male slashed the closet, Jaune forced the door opened, in which it slammed upon the male's face while running away.
"The hell!? I'll get you for that you shit head!" The male yelled, going after Jaune.
'Where's the damn elevator!? Where is it!?' Jaune's thoughts were being clouded with fear, as the male was almost catching up to him.
'The elevator!' Jaune thought to himself. Upon reaching it, Jaune pressed the button at the side of the wall quickly.
"Come on, come on, open up already!" Jaune yelled as he heard the male's laugh reaching very quickly to him.
As the door opened, Jaune quickly got in, and pressed the button to go up and got away from the door before he lost his head as it closed.
Having time to himself for now, Jaune sighed in relief as he was safe, for now. As minutes passed, Jaune was able to recover from all of the running that he's done and patiently waited for the door to open.
"How many floors are there? Please don't be many, just please." Jaune said to himself. As the doors opened, he walked out of the elevator to see where he was.
"What's with all this these roses?" Jaune asked himself. When Jaune stepped out, he was awaited with roses leading to a singular path... forward.
