The Light of the Year

Fall

As the wind came whispering through the trees,

And the moon light shone all 'round.

The waters tred their narrow path

Long the leaf-strewn rocky ground.

Winter

Tinkling, sparkling jewels of ice,

Glistening 'gainst sleeping limbs.

Steam glides along the mirror-lake

In the cold light, bright yet grim.

Spring

The gentle sun breaths golden warmth

To the dew-touched rosey flowers

Whose gem-tones brighten 'neath the Emerald-green

Of the leaves crisscrossing 'long the bowers

Summer

In the fiery, flaming sunlit day,

Waters deep and deafening roar.

Escaping, evading as they eagerly flee,

Rushing round the ragged shore"

"And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

God saw that the light was good,

and he separated the light from the darkness."-Genesis 1:3-4

I wrote this about a month ago while watching the creek behind my house during sunset. It reminds me of the story about the artist who decided to dedicate his life to painting the light, because that is the beauty of the world he wanted people to remember-the light in contrast to the dark. What the light shines upon will alter with the seasons of life, and sometimes it will be obstructed by clouds. However, nothing can make the stars cease to share the light of the future or the sun to stop shining day after day. Light is something we can rely upon in a world that is always changing. I think perhaps that is why light was the first thing God created, because it was an assurance to us that somethings will always be the same until the world ends. Anyway, I wanted to write something dedicated to this beautiful part of God's creation!

As always, to God be the Glory :)
