WITHIN THESE CONFINES

The old door creaked open admitting a giant hulking figure then squealed in protest as he shoved it closed against the frigidness that defined the outer environs. Dean watched the figure approach with hooded eyes.
Sam dropped the meager amount of sticks and limbs he'd managed to collect before shedding his now-soaked hoodie.
"I scavenged what I could." His voice was full of apology. "How's the leg?"
"Still broke," Dean croaked.
Sam crouched, started stacking the wood. "It's not much…"
"It's okay, Sammy. It'll get us to tomorrow." Dean patted Sam's knee. Despite their bleak situation, confidence laced his voice.
