Coraline Jones was eleven years old when her mum and dad came to her one day whilst she was sunbathing by the pool in their back garden. she only noticed because their shadows covered her sun. she sighed, peace and quiet never seemed to last around here for long especially when she was enjoying her wonderful garden. the garden she loved to work in and her parents, garden catalogue editors in chief superiors, never seemed to enjoy sinking their pitch forks in to a pile of sloppy mud to plant some tomato plant seeds the way she did. some times she couldve sworn that she was the only one with a green thumb in her family, and she was the palest to the only main colour of her skin being the brown freckles that blossomed all over her ivory cheeks and arms and legs and every patch of skin visible to the butterball sun.
she sighed again as she lifted her sunglasses slowly from her hazel eyes to place them on her shrowd of long brown hair. "hi mum, dad, hows it hangin'?" she asked casually, pulling herself up on to her elbow so she could prop her face to look up at them. "honey we've some thing to tell you" beamed mum and coraline felt the pit in her stomach open up. when mum was being nice it was never a good sign. especially as her parents were usually to busy to bother with their daughter except when enforcing ground breaking rules. "what have I done now?" groaned coraline, burying her head in her arms. "nothing twitchy witchy girl" smiled dad tapping the top of her forehead with his unusually long lean fingers, they twitched unnaturally. "oh no" coraline cried "no no no", "yep" mum beamed "we're moving to Oregon!". Coraline hid her face from her mother and father they were so ... unbearable! how could they think she wanted to go and live in the middle of no where in a place that looked like a doll house with plastic ice puddles all around because the showers never stopped. she would probably drown in the rain, let alone her own tears. " when" she said. she had learned by now that it was never worse than to fight with her parents, she would plot her revenge slowly and carefully. "tomorrow darling, are you excited?" replied her mother. Coraline looked up at the two faces smiling down at her with twinkles in their eyes. "Sure" she said sarcastically, rising from the sun bed and throwing her sunglasses behind her. "why not, I just have to leave behind every thing normal and sane to go and live in some old ladies house that gives me the skeevies, but no Im fine.I'll just go tell my best friends not to wait up for me tomorrow to walk to school and I hope they can come to my funeral. Ill probably end up falling out of a tree, there'll be nothing but trees to climb and rain. Rain rain rain and no sun. But wait. Coraline paused in her tracks Thats perfect there'll be lots of rain. Pretty blue rain to make the flowers grow...
