"Long day, huh?" Light asked. We were walking down the field, a secret passageway to get to my house. "Yeah," I mumbled, stretching out my back. "Finals are always so stressful..." He smiled and lightened the tone in his voice. "It's over though, which is... Well great!" We laughed and walked through the field.
That's Light Yagami. Some recognize him as Kira but at the time, he was my best friend. Things got complicated. A majority of people thought that what he was doing was sick, but the others agreed with him; that criminals should be punished for the wrong they've done. I wasn't on a side, couldn't choose. I know what you're thinking, 'He's your best friend, you side with your best friend!' but as I was saying, things got complicated... Hm... where shoulld I begin... I'll start where we had the honor student reading, because that's really where things took a turn
"...we are the new generation and we live up to..." light read from the platform. I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable, I was wedged in between the two most stupid boys in the whole building, who were talking about some new car brand. i was trying my hardest to ignore them. After Light finished reading, he handed the paper to the boy next to him, who had a slouch and dark circles under his eyes. He then grabbed the paper by his index figers and thumbs, and began reading in an unproportioned mannar. I smiled, because not only did it sound funny, it was sort of charming. Hm... I'd prefer if you didn't ask. Light was looking uneasily at the boy, like he had a knife or something in his hand. After he finished, the crowd applaused and they went to their seats.
The rest of the ceremony was boring. The teachers gave the speaches also, and named off the students in the top ten ranking (surprisingly I was number three). I was paying close attention to Light, who was sitting next to the other boy giving the speech. He was glancing nervously next to him. I found it odd that the guy didn't sit normally. He had his legs on the chair, in a crouching position, eyeing Light. They seemed to be talking silently, which was annoying me dearly. I yearned to know what they were saying. Finally, the ceremony was over and I scurried over towards them.
By the time I got towards them, we were walking outside. "Um... Hey Light" I said nervously. Light turned his head and smiled. "Hi N-Natsumi!" he exclaimed in a over-the-top happy voice. "Who's this?" I asked, looking at the slouched over guy. "Oh! I'm Hideki Ryuuga. Pleasure to meet you." He said in a mellow tone. I looked at him confused. "...The pop idol?" I asked suspiciously. "N-no, silly. They just share the same name" Light said, laughing nervously. What was wrong with him? Did Light really get this shy around new people? "Well, yeah, nice to meet you too Hideki" I said smiling. "Yes! Well I have to leave now. My apoligies. Goodbye, hope to talk again in the near future" Hideki mumbled, and walked off
