Friendship Valentine
In the late evening hours one Valentine's Day, Ron and Hermione sat in their favorite chairs in the Gryffindor common room. The fire was dying out. Hermione was busy with a quill and a rather large piece of parchment, and Ron couldn't be bothered because he was studying as well. Well, he was studying Quiditch maneuvers.
"Ron you wouldn't happen to know where Harry went, would you?" Asked Hermione.
"Hhmm? Oh, he went up to bed. Said he was tired, but I'm guessing he's just buggered about that stupid singing valentine, AND everyone hearing it. I mean, if it were me, I—," Ron was interrupted.
"It wasn't stupid," said Hermione thoughtfully.
"What?" asked a dumbfounded Ron.
"I said," glared Hermione, "I don't think it was stupid."
"The... the song?" asked a bewildered Ron.
She nodded.
"Blimey Hermione, you have gone daft. 'His eyes are as green as a.. as a FRESH. PICKLED. TOAD'," he mimicked sarcastically.
"I didn't know you felt that was about him," she said with a smirk.
"THAT'S not what I meant! It's just weird, 'Mione. I mean, can you say, creepy!"
Hermione stopped and thought about it. She changed the direction of the conversation when she realized that Harry wasn't as unlucky as Ron thought. "At least he got a valentine," she whispered.
"I'd rather have no valentines at all, they're just mental," he said disagreeing.
"But d-didn't you like mine?" stuttered Hermione.
"Oh! Yeah, that was great. Harry and I love your valentines. Friendship valentines, so great," Ron said sarcastically.
"Humph!" groaned Hermione getting up to leave.
Ron quickly realized he had hurt her feelings, and got up to stop her. "Hermione!" squeaked Ron, reaching out and touching her hand for a second before quickly pulling it away, "don't go?" he asked apologetically.
"Fine," she responded the corners of her mouth turning up into a smile, "but I'm not helping you with McGonagall's essay," she said with a smirk. On the outside it might appear as if Hermione had forgiven him, but on the inside she felt hurt. 'He must not have even read it' she thought. It wasn't a friendship valentine at all.
