Took you Long Enough
Life's not fair. Lily knew that, she definitely knew that. Se had spent six years wishing James Potter would stop chasing her. Now that he'd stopped she'd fallen or him, and wished he hadn't.
It sounded really selfish, but once he'd given up she'd seen that he really wasn't that bad. Seeing him as head boy had made her see all the good qualities she had refused to notice before.
She'd say yes I he asked her now. If only he would.

"James!" I called. Now I'm not as thick as people say I am. I'm Sirius Black, and I'm not blind thank you very much. James is my best friend and no matter how many times he says it, I know he's not over Evans.
Evans is a damn good actress I'll give her that, but if you look carefully enough you can tell she let's her guard down when she's not with him. How she glances at him a little more than natural during class or how when they're talking and he walks away the barrier falls, and there's a sad look in her eyes.
Now just being friends is slowly killing both James and Lily. So now it's up to me because neither one notices the other. James has to ask one more time because this time she'll say yes, of that I'm sure.

Of course James still loved Lily. It just didn't wok that way. You couldn't just turn it off or he wouldn't still be torturing himself.
Sirius kept telling him that he should ask her because he could tell he wasn't over her, but he didn't understand. Still there was something in is friends voice when he asked that made him cave. Tonight he'd ask her out one last time.

Lily, Alice, Sirius, and Remus were the only ones left in the common room. Lily, Remus, and Alice had forced Sirius to work on his homework. Peter had gone up to sleep, and no one knew where James was.
Then the portrait hole opened and James walked in.
"Lily can I talk to you," he asked looking nervous.
"Sure," she replied standing up.
The two of them walked a little away from their friends.
"Lily will you go out with me" he asked now looking way beyond nervous.
She smiled at him. "I might actually like that."
Apparently they weren't far enough away from their friends because suddenly the room rang with applause and Alice said "finally" very loudly. Remus said "Thank Merlin" and Sirius yelled. "I knew it!"
James and Lily gave their friends a confused look and in reply three voices chorused…
"It took you two long enough!"
