Keep Away
Little Coop walked to school with the bright-eyed innocence of little boys everywhere.
"Hey Coop!' His best friend Jamie ran over to him.
"Hi Jamie."
As Jamie came to a stop by his friend, he winked at a couple of passing girls, who snorted and made an effort to ignore him.
As the two reached the school gates they noticed a new boy leaning against the fence with a couple of other boys.
"Who's the new kid?" Whispered Coop.
"I think he's called Billy Jenkins." Whispered Jamie. "He's just moved in down the block from me."
Coop's first idea was to say hi, but the menacing appearance of Billy was enough to make him change his mind.
Coop and Jamie walked quietly past them. But Billy looked up. "Well, well, well. What do we have here." He sauntered over and shoved Jamie to one side. "Outta the way shrimp!" He smiled unpleasantly at Coop, and his two cronies formed up behind him. "Hey fat boy what'cha got there?" He snatched Coops lunch bag away.
"Hey man, that's my lunch!" Protested Coop. "How am I supposed to get through the day without it?"
Billy prodded him in the stomach. "I dunno, try living off your body fat, you got enough of it." His cronies snickered.
"Look, maybe we got off on the wrong foot," said Coop. He held out his hand, "hi, I'm Coop."
Billy shook his hand, "hi, I'm Billy Jenkins." With one movement he twisted Coops arm behind his back and shoved him over. "And now I have your lunch."
"Aw c'mon," Coop pleaded. "Gimme my lunch back! Please."
"Oh sure." Billy chucked Coops lunch to one of his cronies. "If you can catch it. Keep Away!"
The boys began chucking Coops lunch to each other while he tried to catch it.
Jamie made a spirited attempt to help Coop catch his lunch but one of Billy's cronies shoved him into the fence.
After a short while of chucking Coops lunch around Billy heard the school bell ring.
He emptied Coops lunch on the ground, "here, take your crummy lunch." In a final act of maliciousness he shoved Coop into a conveniently placed mud puddle.
Coop tearfully watched them walk off. "One day Billy, you'll pay for that. One day…"
Ten Years Later.
Coop brought Megas to a halt outside a house, where a man was washing his car in the driveway. The man didn't look up, because he was used to giant robots stomping around the city.
Kiva leaned over Coops shoulder. "What are we doing here Coop?"
Coop smiled. "Paying someone a visit." He winked at Jamie, who gave him a thumbs-up.
Coop unrolled the window and leaned out. "Hey Billy! Billy Jenkins!"
The man washing the car looked up. "Yeah?"
Coop spurred Megas forward and the massive robot picked up Billy's house in one colossal fist. Coop grinned evilly. "How about a game of Keep Away?"
