Samwise the Brave: The Tale of Samwise Gamgee
This is my first published work, so there will be mistakes. Please do not hesitate to review and tell me what I can fix. This is just a little thing I thought of while trying to write a different story. I hope you enjoy! None of the characters or situations mentioned are my own. They are all work of the esteemed JRR Tolkien. I will only take credit for what I have done, not what Tolkien did.
Long ago there lived a hobbit. A hobbit named Samwise Gamgee.
He was a simple man who spent his days as the gardener of one Frodo Baggins down in the Shire.
He was like any other young hobbit, filling his days snipping greens and watching the ever so beautiful Rosie Cotton.
A young hobbit who spent time with his friends, Frodo, Merridoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took.
One evening, his world was turned upside down when he was caught eavesdropping on a secret meeting between the Grey Wizard, Gandalf, and his young master Frodo.
He was tasked with a mission.
A simple gardener tasked with an impossible mission.
The odds were not in his favour;
Yet, he followed his master anyway.
Even with certain danger and unknown territories, he followed Frodo Baggins, now the ring bearer.
Even with the Nine Nazgul riding at his tail, he followed Frodo.
Even after being in the safety of the elves, he followed Frodo.
Even after being tasked with the quest of destroying the ring, he followed Frodo.
When Frodo left to Mordor alone, Samwise followed.
Even if it meant that he could die.
He followed Frodo, no matter what, no matter the cost.
Because he loved Frodo,
He cared for Frodo, his best friend.
Even when he knew that there was a slim chance that they would survive, Samwise followed Frodo.
Even when his own best friend turned on him, Samwise followed.
It is because of this, that Frodo could destroy the ring.
The unfailing, the unending love and loyalty that Sam gave to his comrade, master, friend,
Kept Frodo from failing.
This is what it means to be brave.
Samwise Gamgee showed the world of a hobbit's loyalty and bravery towards a friend.
This is how Samwise Gamgee, once only known as the shy gardener,
Became known as Samwise the Brave.
His story would be told on from generation to generation.
His sacrifice and loyalty never, never forgotten.
