It's my first time writing anything for Ugly Betty. This sort of just came to me so I wrote it. I've always seen the soft side that Marc shows when it comes to Justin, so I decided to write something as a reflection of it.
Every time I look at him it's like seeing myself in the mirror. Everything's the same; he's got the same spirit I had, he even dresses like I did. We're the same person; two sides of the same coin.
"Marc!" My ears perked up upon hearing my boss screech my name.
"Yes, Will?" I called, rushing to her door, attentive as always.
"Give these to reception," she handed me a bouquet of white lilies. "Tell them to send them to Alexis' ward; I can't go to the hospital today."
"Right away, Will."
I took them from her and walked to the reception, only to be confronted by Amanda.
"Hey, you, what have you got there?"
"Lilies for Alexis – get them sent to the hospital, Mandy." She nodded as I propped the pink-and-silver wrapped mess on the table. She reached over the desk and grabbed me by the shoulders.
"Is something wrong?"
I sighed, putting on a smile after. "No, I'm fine," I gave her one of those dazzling smiles, one she was so used to seeing, and one that would fool her into believing I was fine and dandy. I never feel like this…I never feel bad. I hate this…this anxiousness that's pent up inside me.
"Good," she sat back down on her seat. "Hello, this is Mode magazine, how may I help?" She was obviously taking a call, so I dismissed myself quietly and headed back down the corridor to my desk, not in any real hurry.
Then I heard his voice.
"Marc?"
He was full of innocence; you could just hear it in his voice. He would never approach you; he'd just call your name when he saw you. He never called it with confidence, but always with caution.
I looked up to find the boy sitting on my desk.
"Yes, Justin?"
"I've completed the list of things you told me to find. Is there anything else you'd like me to do?"
I smiled at him. "No…just…do whatever thirteen-year-olds do; relax a bit." He looked at me, puzzled. "Don't question my generosity; it's a rare thing." I put my arm around him as I joined him on my desk.
And then there was silence. Just complete silence. I didn't know what to say, nor did I try to make any conversation. I simply reached into my pocket for my inhaler and took a squirt. I didn't go into a panic attack even though I could feel my heart beating faster with the physical contact between us. I put the inhaler back and sighed quietly.
"Justin?"
"Yes, Marc?"
"Want a lily? It kind of goes with what you're wearing." I pulled a white lily I had stolen from Alexis' bouquet especially for him. He accepted it with gratitude.
"Thanks," he said, resting his head on my shoulder as he observed it.
"You're welcome," I whispered, kissing him on the forehead.
I had never been a real giver or a kind person, but there was something about him. I saw myself within him and I craved to possess this boy due to this similarity between us.
He didn't flinch or say anything when I kissed him ever so softly. He just half-heartedly put one of his arms around my waist.
That was enough for me.
