DISCLAIMER: I don't own Yugioh Zexal but duh you already knew that.

Around them the world lay in broken silence: the bodies of their families scattered on the floor of the battlegrounds, no survivors; the sheets of freezing rain pouring down after the end of the war and blankets of sticky blood covering everything. But they didn't notice. They didn't cry. They didn't smile. They just stared into one another's eyes, the only place they were allowed to show their affection.

Her long blue locks, which had once held a crown, were soaked with blood, some of hers, most of it not. Her skin had paled and in her hand was her only weapon, a dagger made purely of ice. Rain drenched her clothes making it heavy and hard for her to stand but she would not give in to weakness.

He, on the other hand, towered over the dead body of his dragon, one of the few obstacles still separating them. His silver eyes would not show an ounce of emotion, even for her, and he stood tall and firm refusing to let her see the crippled man behind the armour.

All this hatred, bloodshed and loss was a consequence of their forbidden love. Whether or not they shared the same status, they knew they could never be together so they never acted upon their mutual feelings. But just thinking and feeling it was enough to cause a war. Although all these deaths should've set them free it felt as if there were more restrictions than before. The aftermath of the battle would cause them sorrow beyond measurement and they would gladly take the pain, they would gladly take anything thrown at them but they would not feel guilty. Guilt meant giving up and though they knew they could not be together they would not surrender.

"I'll never forget you," whispered Rio but we can't be together.

"Maybe someday we'll meet again," Kite stated until then, I'll always love you, Rio.

They knew all too well that this was the last time that they'd see each other like this; alive and breathing. And they had to live with the fact that the last time they had seen each other, they'd killed each other's people and betrayed their own. They had to live with the fact that they'll never find love like this ever again.
