Alec's senses were being assaulted from every possible direction, adding to his discomfort. He had been drug along, against his will, on a tedious quest to find the person who put the memory block in Clary's mind. He was just seconds away from going back to the Institute. Fey and Vampire's stared at him from all across the room. He could feel their hate-filled eyes sizing him up.
Stepping closer to Jace, Alec turned his attention to the Warlock, Magnus Bane. Magnus was apparently the one who Clary's mother had employed to keep Clary from learning about the Shadowhunting world. Magnus was also too busy talking with Clary and Jace to notice Alec's staring, so he took a long look at him, hoping for a distraction from the constant barrage of noises and scents that hung around him.
The lack of pants was the first thing that Alec noticed. He himself wanted to die of embarrassment whenever Izzy accidentally saw him without a shirt, much less without pants. It baffled him how confident Magnus was. From the way his eyes never broke contact with Jace, which made Alec want to slap him, to the way he held himself tall and strong, like no one's comments would ever bother him. A small surge of shame went through Alec and he crossed his arms. Day after he day he had to deal with comments, especially from his father, and they always got to him. He caught a glimmer of yellow in the Warlocks eyes and for a second he thought they were cat's eyes.
Staring at Magnus, Alec had completely forgotten about the party that was going on around him. That was, until he heard Magnus speak.
"Fine, I'll let you stay. But only because of the hot one." His voice was golden.
Alec rolled his eyes as Clary and Jace answered in unison, "Thank you."
Magnus looked taken aback. "What? No, I don't mean you." Alec snapped up. If Magnus came on to Isabelle…
"I meant him."
All movement in the room had stopped. Or at least that's how it felt. Clary and Jace stepped aside and Alec gazed with shock at the Warlock. Magnus was pointing directly at him and had the cutest smirk on his face. Alec's heart stopped. No way was this happening. He couldn't even respond before Magnus turned and lead the group further into his apartment. As Alec stared, Magnus looked over his shoulder and caught his eyes one last time. His cat's eyes flashed for a second before Alec caught a subtle wink. And just like that, they were gone.
Everyone else seemed oblivious to the encounter, but Alec couldn't help but feel like every eye was on him. He skirted to a corner of the room and backed himself into a wall. His heart was beating so fast he was sure everyone could hear. Did a guy really just call him hot, and no one was bothered by it? Could it really be that simple? Alec's knees gave out and he slid to the floor. He ran his hands through his hair as he willed his heart to slow down. Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn, thought he was hot. The very thought sent him so much genuine joy and excitement that Alec couldn't help but smile like an idiot. Suddenly, the urge to talk to Magnus was overwhelming. Alec had to get to know him, he had to let him into his world. Nothing else held any importance.
Not any more.
