So I asked myself the question one day. Why does Mario have to keep saving this helpless little princess? I know not all games are about her, but a good chunk of them are. I mean, isn't beating Bowser and saving her once enough? Why does he keep trhowing his lives on the line? I tend to over-rationalize things...this is what I came up with.

Hope you like it. R&R plz.

You do that Mario

"The princess has been kidnapped!" Mario exclaimed. He had just come back from saving her not too long ago too. Though it had only been a short while, Bowser was up to his no good tricks again.

The chancellor of the mushroom kingdom stroked his chin, "I see. Well, I guess its no surprise. Mario, you have to go and rescue her!" He said and clenched a determined fist. With no further hesitation, their hero hopped off on another adventure. With a slow shuffle, the chancellor went to his phone and dialed a number, it rang until the person on the other line picked up. "...Hello...yes...yes...he's on his way...yes I know he-...yes...alright...no, thank you Bowser."

Toad entered the room at the last bit of the conversation, "I saw Mario running out of here."

The older man nodded, "Yes, he thinks the princess was kidnapped again. I'm glad Bowser is such a good sport about all of this."

They had all grown familiar with Mario's antics, and prepared the mushroom kingdom once again for his long journey. Bowser kidnapped the princess once, but accepted defeat as soon as Mario beat him. Since then, Mario had been kicking down his door every few days looking for her.

Peach never went too far. Picking flowers, walk in the woods, gone to the market, simple things. Each time she did though, Mario would assume it was Bowser kidnapping her, but it never was. Years of breaking blocks with his head had left Mario stripped of all short term memory. In an effort to not confuse the poor guy, and as a thank you for rescuing her the first time, they played along with him as he relived the tragedy of losing his beloved princess that one time, many years ago.

"At least he keeps this place interesting," Toad beamed, "We always have people coming and going all the time, so the routine never gets dull."

The chancellor sighed, "I suppose, but it's been twenty-six years, you think he'd be tired by now."
