The night before, he sat in the apartment above the diner, thinking what could have been.
The what if's filled his mind as he stared at the tux hanging on the bathroom door.
What if he hadn't left her?
What if that kiss in Truncheon started it over?
He tried not to bring up the painful memories, but they sneaked themselves through into his, what should be happy, thoughts.
And he should be happy. They were both finally getting what they wanted. They were finally going to live happily ever after. He wanted her to be happy. And that is what he was going to get.
The phone began to ring.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Jess…" The voice. Even after years of hearing it, the voice always sent chills through his body. He wished to be near her.
"Open your door." She demanded before he could say anything else.
He walked to the door, grabbing the cold metallic handle nervously. There she was. Standing right in front of him. Her bright blue eyes, twinkling in the dimly lighted hallway. Her chocolate brown hair cascaded down to her shoulders. He grabbed her and kissed her passionately. Surprised at first, she gave in. They broke for air as he led her towards the bed.
"I just wanted to see you one more time before tomorrow." She managed right before his lips traveled up her neck, crashing into her own.
They were getting married tomorrow. Two years after the kiss that was meant to be closure, they would finally be together. For good.
But he couldn't help but wonder, what if this could have been sooner?
