"I don't want your wand. Destroy it!" Toffee demanded the young princess.
"But I don't know how." Star told him.
"Yes you do, its the first spell your mother taught you." the older lizardesque man told her.
"The whispering spell." Star gasped.
The scene played over in her mind, again and again, haunting her like a broken record. It was gone for good, she would never have another. She desperately missed using magic, and the threat of her mother bringing her back to mewni was scaring her. She didn't want to leave earth, but in her mother's eyes, she had no reason to stay. But she didn't regret her desicion; shaking the idea of still having a wand out of her head, she thought of the alternative. The scene played in her mind as she fell asleep.
"Marco!" she cried out as she woke up in tears.
"Star!" he yelled out in return, rushing to her room to make sure she was ok. Star looked at him in the door way with glazed eyes, tears threatening to spill. "Star." Marco said again, gently this time, as he moved to sit on the bed beside her. She threw her arms around him and burst into tears. He lay them both down on the bed, cradling her as she fell asleep, and eventually fell asleep himself.
He woke in the morning before her and snuck out to scavenge for supplies for stars surprise. He made a mental list in his head as he went along: sellotape, cardboard tube, tennis ball, paint, plastic gems, and glue. Once he had found the necessary items he set to work crafting a gift to cheer Star up. "Done!" he exclaimed glueing the last gem in place and placing the present in a box, adorning it with a ribbon.
"Gooooooooooooood moooooooooorrnnniiinnggg Staaaaaaaaaaaar!" Marco greeted loudly as he walked into her room.
"Morning Marco." she replied, attempting, but failing, her usual cheery voice.
"I, uh, made you something." he said pulling the box from behind his back and handing it to her. She opened the box and smiled gently. |
"Marco." she uttered softly.
"I know you miss your magic, and I know this isn't going to bring it back, but I." he sighed and stopped. "I'm sorry Star, this is all my fault. If I hadn't been so hard on you about the sandwich we would never have argued. And maybe if we hadn't argued I wouldn't have been taken, and you wouldn't have to destroy your wand to save me. So I'm sorry, I hope you forgive me." his voice trailed off and he looked down.
"Marco, I wasn't upset about my wand," she replied. "I was crying because ... because I almost lost you, and when toffee told me to destroy my wand to save you, I hesitated, just for a second, probably less, but I still hesitated. I didn't want to face the consequences of it being gone, my mom's thinking about bringing me back to mewni. She hardly talks to me and I can tell she is disappointed that I sacrificed a family heirloom. But I don't regret it, I really don't ... I'm sorry Marco." he waited for a second, letting everything to sink in, and pulled her in tight for a hug.
"I love you Star Butterfly." he whispered quietly to her.
Pausing for just a moment Star replied; "I love you too Marco Diaz."
