Short fic on the Whammy kids. Here goes.

I don't own Death Note.

"Mello..." The blonde boy ignored the voice. "Mello..." Again, he ignored it. It was only when the purple paint hit him on the nose that he took notice.

"What, Linda?" He said through gritted teeth. Linda looked at him with her large eyes, twisting her hair round her finger in the way she knew annoyed him so much. Mello fought the urge to punch her, because he knew that if he did, then she would cry and he would get in trouble with Rodger. Who would give him a "time out". Mello had better things to do with his time than sit and "think about what he'd done".

"It's just... I can't help thinking that... maybe we shouldn't have done that." Mello glared at her.

"You helped, didn't you?"

"Well... yes... I did. But I still think we shouldn't have done that. It feels... I don't know. Wrong, somehow." Matt looked up from the Nintendo 64 he was playing.

"Linda. I know you don't like it, but now you're in, you can't get out of it. You're as much to blame as us." Mello blinked at such a lot to say from his best friend, but Matt didn't notice. He was looking at the screen again as the red clad plumber attacked the spiky green monster. Linda's eyes filled with tears as she wondered how much of an impact what they'd done had had. She huddled under her blanket and quietly continued her painting of her friend, clutching the controller as if his life depended on it. But soon she was off again.

"I can't believe we did that. I feel awful." Mello rolled his eyes.

"Look Linda. He deserved it, and what does it matter? We can't undo it anyway."

"What did he do? And of course it matters!"

"Look Linda, he was just asking for it. And there's not a lot he can do, now."

"I don't care." Linda got up and strode out. There was a thud, and then the whimpering started. Mello scowled.

"I don't believe it. I'm going to kill her." Mello got up and strode out. There was another thud and more whimpering. Matt got on with his game.

Just over the music he could hear Linda's voice.

"I don't care. It's not nice to hang someone from a light fitting from their ankles. Especially not someone younger than you, like Near."
