The country is a ship
Built lovingly by its founders
It carries us through the wild and endless storms
Shielding us as best it can through the rain.
When the time comes to pull into port
Its sailors carefully fix all damage
As its people grow smarter
They make the ship stronger
But a time will come when the ship cannot stay afloat
Or when its captains grow weary of fixing it
When that time comes
The ship will sink and be lost to time
Living on only in the hearts of its sailors
AN: Umm... an attempt at poetry based on that one episode where France compares representing a country to being a ship. It's for my poetry class. If you have any recommendations for improvement, I'd love to hear it, the assignment's due Monday.
