Fire's Decision: A Story From "Wicked"

Chapter 1. Fire's Hesitation

The man lay in bed, thinking. Just thinking.

Will I ever see her again?

The question ran through his head many times.

I have to see her again. I just have to.

But, what will happen to me if I am caught?

I'll be killed.

I don't care.

She's worth the risk.

I love her.

The man lay there a few moments more,

and made his decision.

I will find her.

I will go to her.

If I can find her.

He was dressed in a flash,

and out in to the streets of the Emerald City.

He soon left the Green City,

and hired a horse and carriage to take him to the fortune-teller,

a woman named Verlantra.

After several hours of driving,

he came upon the hut of

the fortune-teller,

Verlantra.

As he entered her hut,

Verlantra called to him, "Oh my! Do come in, dear boy. What is your name?"

{l}

"My name is none of your concern, Madam." the man replied.

{l}

"Ah, but if you want my service in finding the one you love,

I must know your name young man, if you wish to find the one you love." the old fortune-teller said.

{l}

"Alright. My name is...Flamme de Fue." the man replied.

{l}

"Hmmm...Alright Mr. De Fue. What is the name of the one you seek?" the fortune-teller asked.

{l}

"I call her Elphie." Flamme de Fue replied.

{l}

The old woman looked into her crystal-ball, chanting all the while.

Soon, she looked up and said, "She is in a clearing in a place called Hollow's Wood.

Look around in the trees and you'll find her sooner than you are thinking."

{l}

And with that, Verlantra shoved the man who claimed to be Flamme de Fue,

out the door, and into the night.

After hours of driving, the coachman said, "Here we are."

{l}

"Thank you. Your services are no longer required." Flamme de Fue replied.

{l}

The man walked into the woods and soon lost his way.

Oh, no! How am I supposed to find her now?

{l}

"SKRREEEEEEECH!!!!!!"

{l}

Flamme de Fue suddenly found himself in the claws of a flying monkey.

Oh, no! What is this thing going to do with me? Eat me?

{l}

Clunk.

{l}

"AOWAGH!"

{l}

Flamme de Fue cried out in pain as his back collided with the ground.

{l}

"What in the name of the most God-forsaken..."

{l}

"Now really Fiyero. You know you're not supposed to use that kind of language when there's a

woman present. Even if that woman is a witch."

{l}

The voice was the voice he had wanted to hear.

{l}

"Elphaba..."

{l}

"Shh." the green woman said as she came into view.

{l}

Fiyero sat up painfully. He pulled Elphaba down beside him and

embraced her.

{l}

"Oh, Fiyero. I've missed you so much." Elphaba whispered.

{l}

"I've missed you." Fiyero replied.

{l}

"But, why? I thought you loved...Glinda." her voice receding to hardly more than a whisper.

{l}

"I don't anymore. I love you." Fiyero said, gazing into Elphaba's dark, inky-black eyes.

{l}

"Oh, Fiyer..."

{l}

Fiyero didn't give Elphaba time to finish. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling

her close to his chest, and kissed her.

Elphaba slowly wrapped her arms around Fiyero's neck. The kiss

said far more than words ever could.

{l}

Just for this moment, as long as you're mine,

Come be how you want to,

And see how bright we shine,

borrow the moonlight, until it is through,

And know I'll be here, holding you,

As long as you're mine.

{l}

When they broke apart, Fiyero sensed something was wrong.

{l}

"Elphaba, what is it?" he asked.

{l}

"It's just," she whispered, "For the first time, I feel, Wicked."

Hope y'all enjoyed it! Review!
