Chapter 1: Wonderful

"General Redford, this is unacceptable. The NOD commander was outnumbered twelve to one. Twelve to one! You had one of the most well trained and equipped units on the European front and a NOD commander who has been fighting for less than a year outmaneuvered the "pride" of the GDI army!"
The young man looked back at his superior. This was all lies. That so called well trained and equipped unit had been a bumbling idiots. His orders were to advance into the forest ahead and assess incoming enemy strength. Instead they had openly engaged an enemy armed with buggies, scout bikes, and their supporting armored and infantry forces. Had they followed their orders that armored column could have been ambushed. All the same the thought of General McNeil, his idol since he joined GDI, yelling at him did not comfort his already tense nerves.
"Sir I am sorry, but with all do respect that force that I commanded could not fight there way out of a paper bag. They were by no means ready to fight the fanatical NOD troops in the German Black Forest. These troops have been there fighting GDI elite divisions for six years. Throwing thousands green troops at them will only increase the body count."
General McNeil's tall, imposing figure suddenly loomed over Thomas Redford as he stood from his desk.
"Thank god! I though I was the only one who thought that strategy was shit! Good job son. I knew that I could count on you!"
General Redford stared back at McNeil with a look of total shock.
"Sir the loss of fifteen thousand men is hardly anything that I pride myself in being counted on to do." The man across the table laughed a long hard laugh as he listened to the logical synopsis.
"Son I don't mean that. The GDI high command wants you for its new commander in Germany. This time you can have the men you need. The 7th Spartan Division is now, by far the most elite armored force ever mustered. I want you at the Russian border in six weeks. Dismissed."
The shock of this statement overcame the logical exterior of the young commander. He had to conquer the most powerful defensive line ever made, and then smash his way though a country full of fanatical pro-NOD civilians who hadn't seen GDI forces in twenty years of occupation. Wonderful. Just wonderful.
