Alien Homecoming

I stepped into the strange blue box.
The inside appeared so different from the outside, all sweeping curves and muted colors in opposition to the stark lines and brilliant color of the outside. How could something so alien exist? Bigger on the inside!
I should have been afraid, but I felt... peace—as though, here in this alien ship, I'd always be safe; as if, when I'd crossed that barrier, I'd come home. How could anything so alien seem so familiar?
Something gentle touched my mind: a voice, beautiful and haunting, singing without words a splendid welcome to banish fear.

Author's Notes: I'd never imagined writing a drabble. A story of only a hundred words? What's the point? But then I was going through a file of notes for future stories and I found this piece, almost exactly as it is here, a fragment I'd written from Rose's point-of-view during the episode "Rose". I'd probably never write a story using it, and yet the phrasing seemed to lovely to just delete. I counted the words, tweaked it a bit, and voila! My first drabble, exactly one-hundred words. And now it's official—my author's notes are longer than the story itself...
