Rating: PG
Summary: Inspired by Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon. It's Lois and Richard's wedding day, but everything does not go according to plan… I wrote this days after seeing Superman Returns in the cinema, but I completely forgot it existed, whoopsi!
He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why
"No."
It was barely above a whisper, but everyone heard it none the less. A murmur started among the spectators present.
"No." This time it was louder, more certain. The minister cleared his throat and repeated his question.
"Lois Lane, do you take-" Richard White held up a hand to silence him. He gazed into her eyes, grasping her hands firmly in his. He was silent for a few moments.
"You sure?" he murmured. She nodded, a small smile appearing on her lips. He nodded once, and visibly standing straighter, dropped her hands. Lois looked at him, and stepped forward to press a gentle kiss to his cheek. Turning around, she walked down the aisle, amid the protests of their guests.
As she walked through the large oak doors and out into the church courtyard, a lone figure stood from the back seat and slipped out the doorway.
Clark ran out onto the courtyard and looked both ways, but saw no runaway bride.
"Looking for someone?" He turned around, startled. Lois leaned against the white stretch limo Jason insisted on having. She stood tall as he slowly approached, an unreadable expression on her face.
"Are you okay?" he asked quietly, reaching out to tuck a stray curl behind her ear. She closed her eyes briefly and nodded. "What happened in there?"
"Like you couldn't hear?" she joked. Her expression grew serious. "I… realised something in there." She paused. "He's everything I should want, everything I should need, but he means nothing to me...because of you. Superman."
Clark gasped. How? But he'd been so careful…
"Not careful enough," Lois said, and he realised he must have voiced those thoughts. "You still showed your heart. You still showed you. How could I not see you?" Tears shone in her eyes. He carefully wiped them away. "Clark, I-"
She found her words cut short as he swept her away in a loving kiss. She smiled as they broke apart.
"Mommy?" They looked at Jason, who had followed Lois out of the church. Lois stepped away from Clark's embrace. She bent to wrap her arms around her son. "Is Superman gonna be my new daddy?" She turned to send a look to Clark who just shrugged.
"He's smarter than we give him credit for," Clark said. She gazed at her son.
"Can we go somewhere?" Jason asked.
"In the limo?" Lois expected her son to say yes. But he shook his head, and pointed. She glanced over her shoulder and rolled her eyes. She stood to full height.
"Where did you put your clothes?" she enquired, hands on hips. He smiled, standing proudly in his Superman suit.
"So kiddo," Clark said, picking up Jason and wrapping an arm around Lois, "where do you want to go?"
