A/N: Sooooo…I have been inactive for like, what, two or three years? Sorry. In all honesty, I lost all interest with these stories. Maybe it was just me growing up, or maybe it was me finding more interests. It was actually quite funny to reread these stories I've posted and see how childish I was before. I still write, of course, but I much prefer Harry Potter over anime. I also have been getting into different animes that I didn't watch before, such as D. Gray Man and Attack on Titan, which are both amazing. But, recently, I've been getting some emails telling me more and more people are liking that one Gakuen Alice fanfiction I forgot about and I started feeling guilty. So, here you go. The new and improved Not the Same.
Hope you guys like this one!
Mikan's POV
I sat there shocked. America?
"Mikan?"
I looked up and met the eyes of my uncle. He was the principal of the high school division of the Gakuen Alice. He had recently revealed himself as my uncle, and from there, our relationship, though rocky at first, grew. But now, the man in front of me wasn't my uncle, but my principal. He had called me into his office after classes ended. And now, I was given a choice between Japan and America.
"Yes?" I replied softly. I didn't want to go.
"Do you think you'll go?" I looked down. I didn't want to leave…..but I was dangerous. It was a few days ago when I had discovered my abilities. I had been messing around with Koko when I suddenly realised that I could hear his thoughts. I freaked out for a second but I made sure my bubbly composure was maintained. I discussed the matter with uncle and found out that I might have inherited my mother's abilities; SEC, or steal, erase, and copy. It was a miracle I didn't steal Koko's alice. But I was dangerous, and from what I knew, no one else needed to know about this new found alice.
"Yes, uncle. I think that I will," I said finally.
"I'll pack my bags tonight and leave tomorrow, if it's possible," I said bravely.
I put on a fake smile as I did every day. I mustn't let my emotions worry those around me. Uncle beamed back at me.
"You're a good girl, Mikan." He engulfed me in a warm hug. "Your parents would be proud."
I nodded and headed to my dorm. I suppose I should say good bye to my friends. I called Luna and told her to meet up with me. I walked back to my class and grabbed all of my materials, ignoring Hotaru and Akane who were chatting and laughing quite loudly in the corner. It they weren't going to talk to me anyways.
Akane was a transfer student who had come from Yokohama. She was a nice and bubbly person, not to mention pretty. She had long, dark brown hair along with green eyes and flawless skin. In a few months she had easily become Hotaru's new best friend, as well as Natsume's girlfriend, captivating the two with her smarts and personality.
The thing is, she was quite the opposite around me. A cold, corrupted and deceptive woman was all Akane was to me. But as much as I tried to tell others, Akane had my friends wrapped around her pinky finger. Eventually, Hotaru had come to ignore me, Natsume following in suit. Though others still stuck around, I couldn't help but feel a little lonely.
As I gathered the last of her desk's belongings, Natsume walked in and started to talk to Akane and Hotaru. I wasn't surprised when they disregarded my existence and pushed pass me as they left. I rolled my eyes and headed to my dorm room where Luna and a few others were probably waiting. We were having a get together for my departure.
When I arrived, Anna, Nonoko, Sumire and Luna were sitting in a mass of junk food, movies and games. I smiled.
"Hey guys!" I said in a cheerful voice. I hated acting like this.
"Mikan-chan!" Anna and Nonoko smiled. "We heard that you were leaving! Please say it's not true!"
They're like twins.
"I'm sorry, guys," I said innocently. This voice is so stupid.
"What!?" Sumire exclaimed.
I quickly explained about my predicament, changing a few things here and there.
"My. I can't believe Gakuen Alice can't even teach you Nullification anymore," Anna pouted.
"Yeah," Nonoko frowned.
"I would've thought our school could handle it," Sumire said. "That's sort of disappointing."
After a while, Anna, Nonoko and Sumire left for one of Akane's parties, the ones where girls got knocked up and guys got drunk. Honestly, I was relieved when they left. It was tiring putting on such a fake face.
"Assassin's Creed or Injustice?" Luna asked as I grabbed some cola. I unveiled my beautiful Xbox and grabbed the controller.
"Injustice. Definitely Injustice."
Luna rolled her eyes and placed the disc into my Xbox and sat back as we played against people online. The game was intense. Luna groaned as her Flash was beaten.
"Fuck!" she hollered. "I was King!"
I rolled my eyes as she handed me the controller.
"Watch how the professionals do it, hun," I smirked. Luna sat back and grabbed a few chips.
"Choose the Flash, Mick. He's totally the strongest."
"Nope," I said, popping the p. I challenged the new King who was pretty damn good. "I'm going with…Aqua Man."
"What! Aqua Man?! Seriously? He's so lame! You might as well give up right now, you're up against Batman," Luna groaned.
"Watch and learn."
A trident, a kick and one ass whooping later, there was a new King sitting on the throne. I smirked at Luna who rolled her eyes. I laughed and the evening went on. Luna and I finished playing and watched a few movies, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Casino Royale being a few of them. As fun as it was, we went to bed quite early, as my flight was arranged for eight.
As soon as I woke up, Luna flung a pair of clothes at me.
"Come on, Mikan," she said. "We're forced to wear uniforms all year. This is your one chance to show off that rockin' body you got. Make Natsume feel bad he chose Akane over this."
I blushed.
"I don't care about what Natsume thinks about my body. I just know that he and Akane are perfectly fine as they are."
"Sure," Luna said. "Now put these jeans on. Oh! And this shirt. Now put your hair down for once. Those stupid pigtails make you look ten."
I scoffed.
"That was sort of the plan, Lu. That was the fucking point."
I looked at myself in the mirror. Long brown hair, a black t-shirt, and form fitting black jeans.
"Alrighty then. I think my ride's here." I looked at Luna who grabbed me and pulled me into a tight hug.
"I'll miss you," Luna whispered.
"Same." I breathed in shakily. God. America.
"How long will you be away?" asked Luna. I frowned.
"If I recall," I thought aloud. "Around three and a half years. And if I'm lucky, just three." Luna nodded.
"Makes sense. SEC is a dangerous alice to have. You're going to have to study your ass off just to perfect it."
I rolled my eyes.
"It's not that hard," I smirked. "Guess who I am."
I stuck my hand out and a ball of fire erupted. Luna rolled her eyes.
"Perfect impression you got there, Mick. But just remember to write to me. I'm pretty sure your uncle will let us email."
"Probably. Anyways, I'll walk you to class," I replied.
I grabbed my suitcases and walked along the empty halls with Luna. Admittedly, classes had begun at least half an hour ago, but at this point I didn't give a fuck. We continued to walk down the halls and stopped at the door of our class. I could hear the rowdy students inside as Narumi sensei tried to teach. I looked at Luna who smiled reassuringly. I smirked back and took a deep breath. I grabbed the door and swung it open.
"My lady," I said mockingly.
Luna rolled her eyes and walked in, me following in suit.
"Mikan!" Anna exclaimed.
I forced a smile and waved.
"Anna."
"You're so dressed up!" Nonoko grinned.
"Well, I'm leaving in a few minutes," I replied, ruffling my hair. I heard a faint beeping from outside the window. "Actually, I think that's my ride right now."
"Ride? Explain, little girl," Natsume demanded.
I looked over at him. He was quite handsome today, ruffled black hair and shining red eyes.
"I'm leaving. That's quite obvious isn't it?" I smirked. "Or is it too much for you to handle, Mr. Hyuuga?"
Natsume looked surprised for a second then narrowed his eyes.
"Quite the statement for someone who's been failing school since we were ten," he retorted cockily.
"You really think I've been failing?"
Natsume looked taken aback.
"How dense are you? I've literally been given more advanced work during classes, much less failed the lesson. Now before I get any dumber being in your mere presence, I should probably go. Sayonara, fuckers!"
With that, I waved off and hugged a few friends. Ruka, Nonoko, Anna, Sumire, Luna and Narumi. I smiled and left. I found the car waiting outside for me, a black limousine being driven by someone I never thought could drive; Persona.
"Fancy seeing you here, Nii-san," I smiled. Persona sighed.
"I'm your brother. Don't not expect me to see you off, kiddo," he frowned.
"Alrighty, brother. Let's get going, I really don't want to miss my flight, lest I have to come back and have my dramatic exit ruined."
"Such a dramatic teen you are," Persona muttered as we headed to the airport.
"I can't help it! These hormones are just all over the place," I exclaimed.
"Yeah, yeah, you little bastard."
The rest of the ride was full of boring games and mindless chatter. When they finally made it to the airport, I had a sore throat and was oddly tired. The two of us walked through the crowded building, people bustling through the doors. I crinkled my nose as I walked through the security. I always hated this part of airports, but safety first, ya know. I heard my flight being called and waved goodbye to Persona. I boarded the plane and sat down by the window, accepting the glass of water given to me by the stewardess.
I stared out the window. America. I had a bubbly feeling in my stomach, and I wasn't quite sure if it was excitement or nervousness. But all I knew for sure was that I would make the best out of these three years.
