It was graduation day then when he had finally gathered up his courage to confess. The setting was perfect – there were birds chirping, the waves splashing and the leaves rustling, as if they were speaking in a language only nature can comprehend.

A young lad smiled, seeing the apple of his eye blend with the aesthetic scenery, her auburn tresses caressed by the wind. He had managed to drag her from their fellow batch mates and now, he slightly wish he hadn't.

"Sakura." Her name unknowingly flowed out of his mouth, gently calling her attention and never shattering the serene atmosphere.

Her grass-green eyes slightly shimmered with confusion, as they penetrated his dark brown ones, stripping him off of his defensive armors; leaving him bare and unable to hide secrets.

His heart began to beat faster, racing with an invisible opponent and he began to sweat. "A-no… You see, I want to tell you something," he managed to say with a gulp.

"Okay then," she said, all ears.

He gulped once more, finding the situation rather difficult than anything else in his entire life. Come on, what happened to the idea in your mind? Well, scratch that. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. Take a deep breath and go, he instructed himself.

Eyes closed, he breathed in and slowly exhaled, all the while aware of her still penetrating grass-green eyes.

"What's the matter?" The wind brought her melodious voice to his ears and the worry it carries.

This is it. "I like you, Sakura," he opened his burning auburn orbs, "Ever since we have been best friends, I hid it. I don't want to risk our friendship, but I'd rather you hear it from me than anyone else."

Thump. Thump.

Thump. Thump.

"I'm sorry."

Thump.

She diverted her face to the other side, her intention either to deprive him of her expression or to control herself from seeing his. "I'm sorry," she slowly held her chin high and plastered on her face, an obviously fake smile, "And someone awaits you."

"Daidouji…? But, we're not at fault, if we like each other."

"The same way she is innocent of all of this? Li, if you want this friendship not to be broken, let this memory be buried. Besides, I like someone else," she said, as she started to leave the place. But, she was refrained by his hand on her arm.

"No, you don't." She didn't dare look at him for the forbidden tears would surely fall at once. His voice only could do so much, what more his eyes? "Sakura," he emphasized, "If you want me for your best friend, then fine. I will do as you will.

But remember," he pulled her into his arms, yet he made sure his eyes were to search hers, "Every single time I'd kiss her, it'll be you my mind would be thinking and only you my lips will be searching," with that said, he gave her one flitting, yet meaningful kiss.

In the end, he was the one who left her, standing against the cold wind.
