Summary: Dean, crayons and construction paper. Dean's first Christmas without Sam.
Christmas Cards
"I can't believe I'm freakin' doing this." Dean thought as he stood in line at the local drug store, a box of crayons in one hand and a pack of paper in the other.
"Got a bored young guest?" The clerk asked as he rung up the two items.
"Um..yeah sure." Dean replied as he paid and grabbed the plastic bag off the counter. There was no way in hell that he was ever going to admit that these things were for him.
Once Dean arrived at the room that he was momentarily renting, he threw the bag onto the nearest bed and withdraw a small folded piece of paper from his coat pocket. Flattening it out, Dean look at the Christmas card Sammy had given him when he was only eight years old. On the front of the card Sam had drawn two boys building a snowman in a motel parking lot, while an older man sat on a black car in the distance. On the inside of the card Sam had quickly scribbled:
Merry Christmas, Dean
You're the best big brother ever!
I love you
Sammy
The card wasn't much. In fact, Sam was a horrible artist and it was hard to read the scribbled message, but it meant everything to Dean. The card was the only present, besides the weapons he had received from his father every year, that he had kept. The card was important because it was made by Sammy. It was a part of Sam that he could carry around with him wherever he went.
Dean still remembered the Christmas morning that Sam had given him the card. He had handed it to Dean with an excited gleam in his eyes and a wide smile on his face. He'd watched as Dean read over the card and was absolutely elated when Dean pulled him into a rare brotherly hug. It was on that day that he had stupidly promised to be there for Sam on every Christmas. He'd never thought that he would break that promise when Sam went off to college.
Sighing, Dean opened the box of crayons, grabbed a piece of paper and began to draw. Half an hour and several attempts later, Dean had successfully completed his first ever Christmas card. On the front of the card, Dean had attempted to draw to figures, one slightly shorter than the other, engaged in a snowball fight. The taller of the two seemed to be loosing the fight since he was covered in more snow. On the inside of the card Dean had quickly scribbled his own little message to his brother.
Merry Christmas Sammy
No studying today little brother.
I'm sure you can find a girl to celebrate today with.
If you need me, just call.
Your awesome big brother,
Dean
Grabbing the card, Dean raced out to his card and started his trip. By morning, Christmas day, Dean was parked outside the small house where Sam was currently living. Walking up the front steps, Dean placed the card in front of the door and rang the doorbell. Dean had just made it to the side of the house when Sam groggily opened the door, noticing the card a couple seconds later. Dean watched as Sam read the card, smiling and shaking his head when he was done.
"Merry Christmas Dean." Sam said aloud, before heading back inside.
Once sure that it was safe for him to move without Sam noticing him, Dean made his way back to the Impala that was parked around the corner. Dean entered the car with one last look at the house.
"Merry Christmas Sammy.' He whispered before starting his car, and heading into the direction of his next hunt.
A/n: Well that's my first Supernatural fic. It didn't exactly turn out like I would have liked, but I think it was okay. Please leave me a review telling me what you thought.
Thanks
