This is dedicated to Whisper 13! Sorry, it's very, very late, but I'm a huge procrastinator!

Fang POV:

I couldn't sleep. I knew the rest of the house couldn't sleep either. Jeb left us just a few weeks ago, and I guess we haven't been the same.

We're all tense, like something is coming to get us. Max thinks so, she claims she can feel it.

Max took this the hardest. She admired Jeb and he was the father she never would have. I guess he was a good guy, getting us out of the school and stuff, but he was a little creepy to be honest.

But now, we had no one and I think Max feels that she has to take his place. She is the oldest, anyway, almost fourteen, while I'm only thirteen.

Poor Angel, having to go through all of this. Five is too young for all of this to happen, and she's probably seen horrible things that you won't in a lifetime.

I just couldn't sleep. It was too hard knowing that you might not live another day, another hour, another minute. Everything was a surprise to us.

I stared up at the black ceiling and just listened. I have gotten pretty good at it these past few days. Max was on my floor since she couldn't sleep. I know it takes a lot of courage to ask to sleep on someone's floor and she didn't want the flock to think she was weak.

I think Max might have fallen asleep sometime around midnight, for all was pretty quiet in the house.

However, a few minutes later, I heard something coming from Angel's room. At first, I tensed up, thinking it was an attack, but then it sounded more like .. crying. Was she hurt? I didn't want to risk it.

Slowly, I got out of bed and crept over Max, walking towards the door. As quiet as a mouse, I snuck into Angel's room and saw her crying on her bed.

"Angel?" I asked tentively and sat on the edge of her bed. "Are you, um, all right?" I wasn't really all that good with that kind of stuff. It was usually Max, but I didn't want to wake her.

She looked at me, her blue eyes glistening, and jumped into my arms, sobbing. "What happened?" I asked quietly, looking down at her.

"The whitecoats," she hiccuped, still crying. "Were chasing me and I-I-I.. they got me Fang." She cried softly. "They got me and they wouldn't let me come to you and Max."

I rubbed her back soothingly. "They won't get you as long as I'm around."

"Are you sure?" She hiccuped again and looked at me with wide eyes.

"Yes."

"Can I come sleep with you and Max?"

I nodded sleepily. Honestly, I didn't really care who came in anymore.

I carried her back to my bedroom and set her down next to me. She sniffed, and yawned and then slowly fell asleep.

I was still awake, though and wondering. Who's going to come into my room next? I'll have the whole flock here by morning!
