We went back to Titan's Tower after defeating Dr. Light, which was pretty easy. For one thing, he wasn't expecting to have to fight off all of us. Except it wasn't more of a fight, it was more like we surrounded him and he tried to fight us off but eventually gave up because he knew that one villain vs. who-knows-how-many Titans is not a fair fight.
It still feels weird, though, to be here. I remember how the H.I.V.E Five tried to take over the Tower, as an order from our H.I.V.E Academy headmistress and as an order from Slade. When we lost to the Titans, we had to go through some serious training for a few months as punishment for failing our mission. But now, being here surrounded by so many Titans and Honorary Titans, it feels like those days are so far away.
Robin was talking to Titans East; Beast Boy and Cyborg were already on the couch, watching TV with a few other titans; Starfire was trying to serve everyone some weird-looking food; Raven probably went to her room because she wasn't around. I was doing my best to stay out of everyone's way. I didn't really have any friends and everyone else was busy catching up and getting to know each other, so staying out of their way was pretty easy.
The thing that wasn't easy, though, was me. Everyone was roaming around the tower and I was sitting on the kitchen counter, looking down at my hands. I mean, I was having a hard time fitting in already. I was too, I don't know, scared, of talking to anyone and nobody seemed to be making an effort to talk to me.
And then there was Kid Flash.
"Cool place they got, huh?"
I cross my arms over my chest, nodding. "Yeah."
"I'm starving." He leans on the counter, smiling up at me. "Fighting off the Brotherhood of Evil and Dr. Light on the same day can make a guy pretty hungry."
"Except Dr. Light didn't put up much of a fight," I laugh quietly.
He gives me a wide-eyed, teeth-showing smile. "That may be true, but you helped us defeat the Brotherhood of Evil!"
"It's not like the Titans needed much helping," I mutter, shrugging. "Besides, I didn't do much. Probably took down Gizmo, Mammoth, Billy, and Kyd Wicked but you guys could have done that yourselves. If you haven't noticed, they weren't that hard to take down—we were never that hard to take down, really."
"We could have done it without you," he says, slightly titling his head at me. "But we didn't, because you decided to help us. So that means that without you, we couldn't have taken them down at all."
I shake my head, laughing. "That makes no sense, at all."
Kid Flash sighs, then looking back up at me with a wide grin. "Wanna go make some new friends?"
I panic a little inside, but calmly shake my head. "No thanks."
"Oh, c'mon, Jinx! I'm sure they're dying to meet you!" he says excitedly, pulling my down from the counter. "And—
He rolls his eyes and continues, "And there are lots of people you haven't met yet and neither have I! So we'll introduce ourselves and make some new Titan friends! Besides, Robin said that he wants to talk to you and—"
"Whoa, slow down," I say quickly, burying my face with my hands. "I'm not even sure I'm ready for this. They're the good guys—they always have been. You always have been. I, well, I haven't always been one. And Robin probably just wants to make sure that I don't sabotage them or anything. It's not that easy to trust someone, Kid Flash."
"But I made you trust me, didn't I?" he says, smiling softly. It isn't his usual smirk, that one he shoots me whenever he's joking or, when I was still part of the H.I.V.E Five and we were still fighting him a few weeks ago, the one he uses when he's messing with me. It's a real, genuine Kid Flash smile and it makes me feel a little bit better than before.
I return his smile and say, "Yeah, you did."
