Outcast
By Josh Leib
In a world of magic there are names for the different people who possess different abilities. They have titles like Fire-Charmer, Water-Sage, Shield-Sorcerer, and then there's my label, Outcast. While others have power that could wage wars, I'm stuck with a useless ability. My Hair changes color with my mood. I am constantly ridiculed by the other kids my age and can never catch a break.
I'm an orphan. I never knew my parents. According to the Grand Council, they were great heroes who played a huge role in the restoration of power to our people giving their lives in the process. I was raised in the house of the Grand Counselor, his head chef was the closest thing to a father I ever had. I can't go to school anymore without getting picked on. I normally hide in the trees outside of the school grounds.
I only have two friends in the entire village. Anthony, a Lightning-Launcher who doesn't judge anyone by what they can or can't do. My other friend is Amber. Amber is the most beautiful girl in the village and the love interest of every boy within a thirty mile radius of wherever she stands. It's like she has a radio transmitter saying "heaven on earth is near" in her hair. Although they are as kind to me as they would be to anyone with real powers, I can't help but think that they just pity me.
For me, life is as difficult as it can be. Life, disappointment, low self esteem, and of course kids, hitting me in the face everyday. Little did I know that soon, I would experience a new item on my list. I would soon be experiencing fate. Although, had I known that the end result would be what it was, I might not have been to quick to accept a chance to prove myself to everyone.
