Summary: Here is a tribute to Chris and Rita's relationship in S5, since someone on requested for me to do a Chris/Rita fanfic. Based on Rascal Flatt's song "Forever." Hope you guys enjoy.

Chris and Rita were some place outside, talking.
"Yeah, I saw the soul search," Chris told her. "I love you, too."
"But I'm…I'm not in love with you," Rita told him.
"Oh, no, I'm not in love with you, either," Chris replied. "I mean, I saw that as well. See maybe someday, we will both look into the right one's eyes."
"I sure hope so," she replied.

It was a dismal night, as Chris and Rita sat on the couch, Chris massaging her feet. After telling him that that felt good, she then told him, "Listen, I wanted to thank you for being there for me tonight. I…I really didn't want to be alone, you know?"
"You scared the hell out of me," he replied. "I can handle anything except losing you."
"Well, that's not going to happen. I can promise you, that."
"Good," he replied.

The next morning, after making love, Rita got dressed and was going to sneak out, but she didn't. She didn't feel right about it, so, instead, she made something like tea, since he was out of coffee, which tasted badly.
"So, where do we go from here?" he asked, when he'd gotten up and they were at the bar counter top, standing across from each other.
"Well, you know, it happened. We'll just have to deal with that, right? So, um, it happened, it shouldn't have, and then it won't happen again. We both agree on that, right?"
"Right, right," he replied.
"Right," she said. "So, um, we'll just move on. We're the same two people. We haven't changed. Partners. So, nothing's changed, right?"
"Right. Right. Nothing has changed," he replied.
"Okay," she replied.

Chris and Rita were outside the precinct, talking. After he asked, "Who says we have to tell the captain?" she pretty much said they'd be having a baby, which thrilled him. Then they kissed.

After much thinking, they decided to get married, and so they did.

After Chris was shot and landed in the hospital, he later died and, after the funeral a while later, Rita knelt in front of his grave, debating on what to do and just pouring her heart out to Chris' grave. Then Harry showed up and they had a chat and she told him she was leaving, because she couldn't deal with being there anymore. Not without Chris around.
