A/N: A tiny little Tyler/Caroline one-shot.
Enjoy and review! :)
When he was seven years old, he pushed Caroline Forbes in the sandbox at school. She had cried, her blue eyes filling up with tears, and the next day he had brought her a cupcake out of guilt (but mostly because his mom made him). She had thrown the cupcake in his face and they had both been forced to sit recess out.
When she was nine she broke her foot falling down the stairs. Tyler had laughed at her, and she had used her crutch as her own personal avenger and smacked him with it. She had gotten suspended for a day and he had been forced to sit recess out all week.
When she was ten she kissed him. Not because she wanted too, but because Elena dared her at Bonnie's birthday party. He had shrieked loudly, thrown his football glove at her, and got sent home when her nose started bleeding. She had gotten sent home for flinging frosting at him in retaliation. They both got grounded.
When she was thirteen she got her first boyfriend. He tried to poke his tongue in her mouth at a party and she pushed him away, ranting like a madwoman about the indecency of the idiot. He had started laughing, and dumped her.
The next day he came to school with a black eye and never spoke to her again.
When he was fifteen he had sex for the first time. It was with a pretty senior girl with the blondest hair he had ever seen and the prettiest blue eyes. He said he loved her and the next day she spread a rumor that he was gay.
She mysteriously came to school the next day with a black eye, and never spoke to him again.
When she was sixteen she kissed Tyler again. She wanted to, Elena didn't dare her (but it was at Bonnie's birthday party), and it was perfect.
The next day they didn't talk about it.
When she was seventeen she started dating casually. Very casually. Tall boys, short boys, smart boys, and dumb boys: all were hers for the picking. But then Damon had happened. Damon created some of the most pleasurable highs and miserable lows that she had ever had in life. Some days would be okay, masked in pretty clothes and sweet kisses from her loving boyfriend.
And then some days were not okay. Some days were hell.
When he was seventeen his dad died. He was depressed for days, angry for weeks, and guilty for months. Guilty because he was sad that his father died, but relieved that his dad couldn't yell at him anymore, or be disappointed in him, or hit him.
When she was eighteen, she dumped Matt. She found him kissing a pretty girl named Aimee at Tyler's pool party, and that was the last time she ever opened her heart to Matt Donovan. She had cried for days, been upset for weeks, and felt guilt for months to come. Guilt, because she could have been there more, she could have done something better, she could have been the perfect girlfriend if given the chance.
Right?
When Tyler was eighteen he learned how to love. He learned how to open his heart completely, to the last girl on earth he expected to fall for. The same girl who he had pushed, made fun of, and gagged at when she had given him his first kiss. The pretty girl with the blonde pigtails and the blue eyes that looked like heaven.
At least to him.
