You wouldn't believe what Sasuke does to keep himself an avenger but when he tries to attack Itachi, his sworn enemy, he fails. Why you might ask?

I think he has plenty of HATE! How could Itachi torture him like that?! I mean come on, you don't kill someone's family and then go and say: Ha! Ha! I killed your family and now I will torture you and then say that you don't have enough hate. Ha! Ha!
Se what I mean? If you don't… You got issues…

-He isn't strong enough to kill Itachi
I think he isn't strong very strong mentally but physically he's pretty strong. Maybe not strong enough to kill Itachi but… How can he be strong enough to kill a guy who has been in the world of jutsus longer than him?

-His love for Sakura might be in the way
You probably have noticed that Sasuke LOOOVES Sakura. Ok. I will admit that is probably mostly in FanFictions but he still likes her in the TV series and in the manga… He might be thinking about his future if he kills Itachi. When he kills Itachi he will have point of life. I still think that's a lie but whatever he says goes… I guess.
