Blind of Pain

for my wonderful daughter ViolentPacifist ;D

From under her feet the land slid, blood pumping fast through her veins, her heart thrashing in her chest. She was never one to show emotion and never one to let herself get in the way. Never gentle nor kind, she buried kindness under paper-white skin in a tincy box of concern for her friends. And yet there she was, hovering over the earth, proving that ounce of concern and kindness to be nonexistent. Closing her limestone eyes she pushed back a loose strand of her short ebony hair and rolled on the balls of her feet, digging her toes in the sand and letting her heels dirty.

A few feet away burned the campsite in crimson, heating up the ground as she felt it on her bare feet. She could never see, but she could feel. And what she felt right now completely disturbed her. What it was, however. Lust? Love? Rage? Hatred? Sanity had withered from her fingertips and become lost in grains of earth, the bender had slowly become someone she feared, someone she couldn't recognize, even if the footsteps sounded the same.

She had betrayed her friends, the ones who helped her, the ones who cared for her. All but one. Zuko. The one who never cared for his 'friends' at all, the one who helped her with the marvelous display of oranges and grays.

She felt his presence behind her, standing tall with his foolish pride. What had she done? Why had she done such a horrible thing? "Toph" he muttered, her name coming out with such a revolting churn making her stomach lurch and her eyes water. "Toph Bei Fong" he almost stammered.

"What" she hissed, knees buckled, she fell to the floor, emotionless, speechless, and empty. "What do you want from me?"

"Toph" There it was again, her name, reminding her how disgusting she was, how cruel, how heartless and evil; questioning her of sanity. And truly he had nothing to say, neither did she, they just had silence, pathetic attempts to form conversation, to explain their devious actions.

She killed her friends. She killed them.

But had she? Surely she had given Zuko the opportunity, the motive, and surely she had trapped them in rock and gravel and driven the sharp objects in their limbs but he had ignited them, he had ignited the town, he had shared blame. "Murderer" she smirked, "what a pretty new adjective for the prince of fire."

"Toph Bei Fong" he snarled, "A pretty name for a woman of crime"

"It is indeed"
