Hello there. New POTC fan here, and I thought I'd celebrate with a little one-shot.
I know perfectly well that every other Jack x Elizabeth shipper out there is going to be writing something similar to this after they see At World's End. But I'm writing it anyway. Whoo.
In this life, she's alone. She's always staring out to sea, waiting for Will to return.
It isn't the life she wanted.
She thinks of Will often enough, but she thinks of Jack more.
Her heart kicks up a little at the thought of Jack, and her mind scoffs. Why in the world should she be thinking of Jack Sparrow? He's just a pirate. Besides, he's not the one she chose to be with.
She knows this, knows that she shouldn't be thinking of Jack in the way she does when Will was the one she chose.
And yet she can't help it when thoughts of Jack swarm her mind. When she remembers how he saved her life more than once. When she remembers how she kissed him passionately, and pretended to be unremorseful when, in fact, she was. When she remembers how he showed her into a beautiful new world—a daring world full of excitement and adventure—the world of pirates.
She can't help thinking these things, but she wishes that she could help it, because they are part of her past, and the past is something she doesn't want to remember.
"It would never have worked out between us."
"Keep telling yourself that, darling."
She could almost laugh when she remembers those words. It would have worked out. It could have worked out, if she'd really tried.
Instead she chose Will. Chose to leave Jack behind. Chose to give up that life of excitement and trade it in for an unwanted life of watching and waiting.
She loves Will, she knows. But she also knows that she once loved Jack, that she could have been happier with Jack.
If she'd chosen Jack, then she wouldn't be waiting for Will.
Waiting, endlessly and alone. Always waiting.
"It would never have worked out between us."
"Keep telling yourself that, darling."
It isn't the life she wanted, but it is the life she chose, and so she must live with it forever.
Well, there you go. I hope to write more for this fandom once I see the other two movies, so look out for some more. It'll most likely be Jack x Elizabeth, because that pairing is super special awesome love.
