A/N: I finally watched Avatar and Stephen Lang is incredibly hot! This isn't a crossover, it was just inspired by the movie.

Before Terra Nova, 85 million years in the future, he had been a model soldier. He never let his hair get out of place and was always within regulation. He might have pushed the rules a little bit when it suited him but never much because Ayani preferred him clean shaved. The only time he let it get out of control was when he had been on a long mission or if he need to fit in. He was spec ops after all.

But once he got here, all of that changed. He left it long. What were they going to do? Relieve him of his position for facial hair? They had tried and failed to kill him for other reasons so he wasn't going to worry over a little beard.

However with the retaking of Terra Nova, he felt the need for another change. He didn't plan on becoming a hippie with a ponytail so his next option was to fall back on the haircut he used to have.

Four days later, he found himself breaking into Wash's house to get to the clippers that she kept. She was the only one allowed to sew him up and to cut his hair so she had kept a pair around. She had once "borrowed" them from the barber and had forgotten to return them. He had the foresight to replace them during the next pilgrimage.

There under her sink cabinet, he found them. He plugged them into the outlet and felt a sadness come over him. In the 7 years that he had been here, she was the only one to do this and now she was gone. He had to start fresh without her and felt terrible.

He began by removing his beard and then moved to his head. He removed the safety blade for a smaller one to get a closer shave. Next he took cream and applied it to his face and the back of his head. He made careful swipes with a razor to produce clean patches of skin.

When he was finished, he stepped back to take a look in the mirror. He looked and felt like a soldier again. One with a high and tight. It felt good but a bit depressing at the same time. Something similar to when he joined the military in the beginning. He was leaving things behind to move onto good things. He was leaving behind a past that he no longer had a connection to, his son would never forgive him, and Wash was dead.

He carefully packed up the clippers, razor, and shaving cream then cleaned up the bathroom. At some point he was going to have to clear out her unit for another family but at the moment it wasn't necessary.

He stepped out of her house a new man.
