So, I got this crazy idea in my head, and then my brain wouldn't let me fall asleep. And I know I should be updating KBTFB, but life is too stressful right now. And this is pure 1am madness right here. But I was just thinking about… what if C4 wasn't the only thing he wrote on the paper?

Just a silly little oneshot, Extremely tiny. And ANOTHER post ep of Cops and Robbers. Heh. Like you haven't read enough of them. :)

Disclaimer: Nope. Still nothing.

Five Letters

Beckett made her way over to Castle and Sal, pushing the gurney farther into the room. Their eyes met as she walked over and knelt beside the man lying on the ground in pain. Castle took a slip from the desk while the robbers weren't looking. he discreetly wrote two characters, "C-4". Castle filled her in on Sal's condition, a seizure caused by the stress and his epilepsy. He tried to keep a distant tone when he talked with her, so Trapper John and the others would not suspect anything. He still could not believe she took the risk of coming in herself.

Beckett saw the paper crumpled in Castle's hand. She decided the best time to take it would be when they loaded Sal on the gurney. She looked down at Sal and tried to comfort him. But, the anxiety that she would never see Rick again was hitting her, and he needed to know that she did care, and that she was going to get him out by any means necessary.

While it seemed like she was comforting Sal, Beckett's hand glided over to cover Castles, and squeezed it in desperation.

She whispered, "Listen to me. I want you to know that there's people out there who care about you. So just keep breathing. I promise you, I'll get you outta here." As she whispered, she slowly turned to Castle by the time she finished

Castle's heart leapt in his chest as Beckett tried to comfort him. As Dr. Huxtable broke up their heartfelt moment, Rick's heart raced at the prospect of never seeing Kate again. While they laid Sal on the gurney and strapped him in, Castle wrote, without looking, three more letters on the slip. He hoped they were legible as he slipped it into Kate's hand as she pushed the gurney towards the front door.

As the door opened and she rolled the moaning Sal out, Kate couldn't help but look back one last time. Their eyes met again, and another seamless and wordless conversation transpired between them.

I will keep my promise.

I know you will.

She handed the gurney with Sal on it to a pair of real EMTs, and Alexis was walking towards her, asking about her dad. She reassured her, and then took out the deposit slip Castle had handed to her.

Two big letters took over most of the slip, and Kate went into a panic. She ordered Alexis behind the yellow line and ran behind it herself. Before running in to tell the captain, she looked closer at the right upper corner of the slip at three unmistakable letters.

"I-L-Y"

A single tear escaped Kate's eye, and she wiped it away quickly. She leaned against the van, clutching the paper to her heart. Sobs threatened to take her over, but she remained strong, biting back a loud cry at her fear of never admitting these same words to Rick. The love of her life. Her one and done.

After a few moments of deep breathing, she entered the van, prepared to continue.

This was not the end. The wall was rubble. She needed to tell him how she felt, and damn it to hell if a bomb and armed bank robbers stood in her way.

FIN

So... yeah. Thoughts?
