Prologue
Determination gives you the resolve to keep going in spite of the roadblocks that lay ahead of you ~Denis Waitley
The afternoon sun brought new life to Destiny Islands. Students hung around the beach, released from the chore of their day life. Some happily shared sticks of icy blue sea-salt ice cream while others horsed around in the water. Overlooking the beach was a tall grassy hill. Two figures sat in the waving blades, both men dressed in dusty trench coats. One was dark skinned, his hair shaved and was slightly taller than his companion even when sitting. The other was pale, his wispy hair receding despite his youthful figure.
"So, what do you think?" The dark skinned man asked.
The other sighed, his fist clasped in his palm, "It's odd. I can't really seem to gather much from here. But one thing stands out to me…" he looked out into the horizon, pointing a thin finger towards the sky, "this timeline's an aberration."
"I see…and how bad?"
He folded his arms, "I'm not sure. This world is so…odd, yet fantastic at the same time."
"But?"
The shorter man chuckled, "It won't last. I can already feel it, something's going to happen and there's nothing we're going to be able to do about it."
The other rubbed his thumb across his lips, shaking his head at the other's omen, "You El-Aurian's, I swear. Whenever you're not sounding mysterious you're trying to be bearers of bad news."
He nodded his head, "I should admit, in comparison to how straightforward and linear you humans tend to act, our philosophical way of approaching such topics can be quite…ominous." His mouth twisted slightly, "However, with the job we have, I would be surprised if 'sounding mysterious' and 'bearers of bad news' wasn't part of our job descriptions."
The human laughed, his deep voice resonating past the hill, "Alright, you got me there."
A series of beeps rose from under his jacket, "Hold on…"
The El-Aurian watched as his friend pulled out a silver device the size of his palm and flipped it open. After a quick glance over, he closed it again with a short breath, "We found him."
"Really, where at?"
"He's teaching at the local high school. Advanced physics."
The El-Aurian smirked, "Fitting."
"Yeah, think he's got a clue on what's going to 'happen'?"
"We'll just have to see now, won't we?"
"Right," they stood up simultaneously, "let's find out then."
The two of them stepped at an equal pace, making their way down the tropical city.
