I do not own Howl's Moving Castle, sadly…..
Chapter One
"Howl!" Sophie exclaimed, her hands firmly pressed to her hips, "Howl Jenkins, you had better get down here this minute!" Sophie's voice echoed up the stairs and into the bedroom, where Howl sat contemplating his current situation on the bed.
He knew perfectly well what would happen if he went downstairs; obeying Sophie. She had been on this new spree for the past two weeks. It had started only slightly harmful, "I want to meet your sister," she had said. However, that had quickly spiraled out into, "Howl Jenkins, I refuse to marry you until your sister has been formally invited to our wedding!" And, if that was not already terrible enough, Sophie insisted that he should be the one to invite his sister! Him!
Megan would not believe him if he told her; she would think him too difficult to finally settle down. Or perhaps she would think he was serious, but still oddly suspicious of him slithering-out right before the eighty-thousand dollar wedding she planned. Howl smiled at this thought. His wedding would have to be flashy and showy. It would not please him at all if it were anything else! His mouse would object of course, but in the end he knew he would win this battle.
"Howl Jenkins! There is not going to be a wedding if you do not come down here this instant!" Sophie hollered from down the stairs. Howl flinched. However, he thought, this will not be one of the battles I win. Unhappily, Howl removed himself from the bed and began his long, perilous and shameful walk down stairs to his mouse's beckons.
"Hurry up!" Sophie said, hearing Howl's footsteps on the floor above her.
"I am!" Howl cried, sounding like a child, "But, I plan on taking my good old time doing it!"
"Now!" Sophie exclaimed. Howl darted down the stairs. She stood in the center of the main room, her red hair tied in a knot at her neck, and her apron tied overtop of her plain blue dress that reminded him of that of Ariel in The Little Mermaid. (Mari watched that movie much too many times to be of any pleasure him.)
"How are you this fine day, my lovely mouse?" Howl said, in a failed attempt to flatter Sophie. He had rushed forward and put the back of his hand to her cheek. Leaning in to kiss her, Sophie slapped him.
"Ow!" Howl exclaimed, "What was that for?"
"Now don't you try anymore of that funny business, Howl Jenkins," she said, "We are going to meet your sister and that is final!"
Howl sighed, sometimes Sophie was just so difficult to disobey for too long, "Of course, mouse."
