Walking through the crowded school hallway full of sweaty bodies and rowdy teenagers, Rachel Berry, the star of New Directions, is satisfied for the first time in her life. There was nothing in the world that could wipe the award-winning smile from her face. Reluctant at first but she finally accepted Finn's apology as she knew that deep inside he always loved her and not Quinn. Not only that, her friendship with Mercedes and Kurt had been mended over a weekend sleepover full of ice cream and musicals. So with her head held up high, the students quickly moved out of her way confused by the newfound confidence from 'one of Lima Heights' losers'.

Just as she turned at the end of the hallway, she saw something very familiar out of the corner of her eye. With a sudden halt and a quiet gasp, she was able to close her eyes before the icy cold slushy hit her face. Ignoring the taunts from the jocks, she tried to regain her breath while the stickiness dripped down her animal sweater, slowly making its way to her black Mary Janes. Sighing, she opened her eyes just in time to see a group of cheerleaders, including Santana, Brittany and Quinn, stop right in front of her. Without saying a word, each one of them dumped a slushy onto Rachel's head, before leaving in laughter. As they walked away, one of the cheerleaders said something that caught Rachel's attention, "With that hideous outfit, no wonder he cheated on her".

Probably due to the painful brain freeze that she was experiencing but Rachel was more confused than angry. It was true that Finn did cheat on her but they were back together now. She just did not understand why she had been slushied multiple times, she was dating Finn, the captain of the football team, this shouldn't be happening.

Just as she finished cleaning the sticky mess, Finn called her, asking her why she wasn't in class. Rachel explained the situation and asked if the football team and the cheerleaders knew that they were back together.

"Of course they do," Finn answered smoothly, "I told them the first day we got back together, they probably just forgot. I'll remind them again during practise on Monday".

"Yeah, maybe" she stated warily but believing his theory before asking, "Finn, do you want to get a coffee after school or something? It is our Friday date night."

"I can't...I'm really busy this afternoon, I promised…Burt that I'll help in the store" Finn stated, stumbling on his words. This should have been the red flag that alerting Rachel that something was going on with Finn but the brain freeze was affecting too much for her to notice.

"Oh, that's alright, I'll call Kurt and Blaine to see if they want to go, I haven't seen them in ages and they never say no to coffee" she stated, forcing her voice to sound indifferent about his rejection before Finn hung up.

Ignoring the irritating loudness of the jocks, Rachel stood in Lima Bean alone. She had asked Kurt and Blaine who were happy to have their date at Lima Bean with her but she did not want to be the third wheel to their relationship so she kindly withdrawn her invite, for the sake of her heart that melts like butter every single time she sees the cuteness of them together.

With a cup of her favourite drink, Honey Lemon Tea, in her hand, she scanned the room looking for a vacant seat. The whole place was over run with jocks and cheerleaders from school but then she spotted a guy in Dalton's uniform sitting in the corner all by himself, furiously scribbling on a piece of paper. In Lima Heights, Rachel Berry was known to be the confident and determined lead vocalist of New Directions who was always so sure of herself and what she wanted but in fact, she isn't. She is very confident about her vocal skills but just like every other girl, she was insecure. So taking a deep breath and putting on her confident façade, she walked over to the guy and sat down opposite to him, "Hey, you're from Dalton right?"

His head shot up with wide brown eyes full of shock and a little bit of fear. Lima Bean was approximately an hour away from his school, no one should have recognised him. However, when his brain registered that it was in fact a certain female sitting in front of him, he sighed in relief and smiled, "Yes I am and you are Rachel Berry".

"How did you know?" Rachel asked cautiously.

"Kurt talks about you all the time, and I saw you at sectionals" He replied and chuckled at her instant relief when he said Kurt's name.

"Oh, so you're friends with Kurt?"

"Yeah, I'm Wesley Montgomery, you can call me Wes"

"Well I'm Rachel Berry," She held out her hand like she had practised so many times which he took, "so how is Kurt doing? I haven't seen him in ages"

Wes took note of how much she cared about her friend, "He's doing fine, he usually hangs out with people from the same grade but I see him during rehearsals"

"You're not the same grade?"

"No, I'm a senior" Wes replied, glaring the piece of paper in front of him before scribbling on it again.

Rachel leaned over a bit and looked at the crumbled page under his hands that looks like it's about to rip before saying, "I don't know what that page has done to you but I'm sure that it doesn't deserve that kind of torture," Wes stopped writing and looked at the page before she continued, "look at it… it's about to cry"

Rachel inhaled a quick breath, not knowing why she said what she did. It was not like her to say something like that and she was just about to apologise before Wes started laughing. Her heart skipped a bit when she heard to sound, no one has ever accepted this side of her before, not even Finn.

Wes looked up at her with a glint of amusement in his eyes, "It's more like what it hasn't done. I'm trying to write my chemistry essay and it is not cooperating with me," He leaned back in his seat, "Oh, the joys of being a senior student".

She watched him with a smile before asking nervously; "I don't want to bother you but is being a senior hard?"

Wes looked at her innocent face before he stuffed the piece of paper into his pocket and smiled at her, "No, no bother at all, it was about time for a little break".

He then started telling her the tips and tricks she needed to know about surviving as senior. She would have started taking notes if she had a notebook with her because all the advice was very helpful. Suddenly, there was a loud crash behind her and she turned around to see a young female waitress picking up coffee cups that some jocks threw. She lifted her eyes off of the girl but they caught on to something else.

"What is he doing here?" Rachel gasped quietly, not believing what she is seeing.

"Who?" Wes leaned over to see what she is looking at but was unsuccessful.

"My boyfriend"

Upon hearing this, Wes felt something in his heart drop but he pushed it aside, "Your boyfriend?"

"He's cheating on me again," Rachel stated as she watch Finn try to flirt with her enemy, Santana. She was surprised that she hasn't started crying now but the tears that welled in her eyes told her that the waterworks were coming really soon.

"Do you to talk about it?" Wes asked kindly. That was all he could do right now, listen to what she has to say. He would have liked to give the boy a piece of his mind but that would have not helped the situation right now.

"No, but thanks for the offer" Rachel forced a laugh, tiring to be indifferent about the whole things, before she look at the time on her phone and started to get up "I actually I have to go".

As the gentleman he is, Wes stopped her and offered her a ride, which she gladly accepted. He drove her home; they swapped numbers if she changed her mind and wanted to talk to someone about Finn, before Wes drove back to Dalton.

That night Rachel decided to take Wes' offer after not being able to comprehend what had happened on her own. Wes insisted that it was better if Rachel had a couple of friends over to help her though this tough time but she declined. She didn't want Mercedes or Kurt to know, not right now. It's not because of what Finn has done but it was because of how she was feeling afterwards. Not only did the waterworks never arrived after the initial shock, she was actually quite relieved, for some odd reason, that Finn had cheated on her again. Now she was just trying to explain how she felt to Wes and if someone as sympathetic as Wes didn't understand then Mercedes and Kurt defiantly would not.

"I'm telling you now that I'm not upset, at all. Is that weird?" Rachel explained for the hundredth time.

"No, I don't think it's weird because I think that your heart knows that you don't really want to be with Finn"

"How could I not want to be with Finn? He's my true love"

Wes sighed, dropping his pen on the table giving on his essay entirely for the night, "That's your brain talking. You've only ever dated Finn so he's the only thing you've ever known. How do you know he's your true love? How many boyfriends have you had? From what you have explained to me, he's been your only long term relationship and no, Jesse does not count"

The other side was quiet for a bit before Rachel's laughed echoed through the phone. It was like music to Wes' ears, "How is it that we've only met today and you know me better than someone I've dated for years?"

Wes laughed at that, "What I think you need right now is a break. From Finn and from relationships in general to 'find yourself'"

"I think that is just what I needed to hear, thank you," Rachel stated before ending the conversation.

Wes stared at his phone long after the conversation has finished before mentally kicking himself.

'You just told the girl you have a crush on to take a break from relationships, good going you idiot.'
