Thanks for reading this! I don't own anything relating to Disney!
Ariel clutched her handbag, walking through the fancy restaurant doors with the rest of her family. More specifically- her family and her mother's boyfriend's family.
The whole gang approached the host's podium, and were seated in a private room. The place was very opulent; luxurious trim along the walls, and real flowers at the center of the table. There were also portraits of people unknown to Ariel to aggrandize the already decked-out room. She made a good call to wear heels.
Her mom and Eli sat side by side, as her 5 and his 4 filled in the remaining seats.
Ah yes. Just another reminder to Ariel that whenever the families got together, 11 spots taken at every table, 11 at every theatre, 11 at every single group outing.
She wasn't bitter about her mom's new happiness. She definitely deserved it, as she was running a small restaurant of her own along with maintaining her a job at reception at a local company- which is actually where she met Eli. Not to mention her 5 children she was left to raise after their father had left them. Ariel gave a smile, looking around the table, remembering all the times her mother always made sure she had new school clothes or a meal on such tight money, even when they celebrated Thanksgiving at an Asian Diner one year. Noticing now, Ariel didn't think she'd ever seen her mom this happy.
"Mmmm, what looks good, guys?" Eli asked us all as he skimmed the fancy menu.
"I'm thinking of the filet mignon, daddy." Charlotte said, one of his daughters in Ariel's grade.
Vanessa was the youngest of his family, 16, a sophomore. Charlotte was a junior, 17 like Ariel and her 2 sisters. Adam was next, he was a senior of course. Finally, Eli's first son was Phillip, who just started college.
Of her own family, Phoebus was the oldest, a senior. Ariel, and her 2 other sisters (Megara and Anastasia), were juniors. Jim was the youngest, a sophomore.
The two clans chatted amongst themselves, Ariel was having her own side conversation with her sister, Megara, the sarcastic and cynical of the family.
"You know, they go to a private school." She told her .
Meg scoffed. "What a surprise. I couldn't tell how rich they were already from the Mercedes van."
"How does Eli have any pride driving that thing?" Anya chimed in, hearing the conversation. "Aren't those for Beverly Hills housewives?"
Ariel immediately covered her mouth, trying to suppress the mass amount of giggles.
This earned a glare from her mother. A "Don't embarrass me here" kind of look. Ariel was soon composed once more and returned to her menu.
Ariel didn't dislike Eli, at least she and Anastasia didn't. Meg and Jim, however, had a different perspective. From what Ariel saw, Phoebus, getting ready to leave for college, didn't care either way.
The waiter came back, with everyone's drink orders. Ariel's mom and Eli ordered a fancy wine. She was greeted with a small Sprite, that seemed so out of place.
Eli cleared his throat, and spoke up so everyone could hear him. "I think it would suit the circumstance to toast to two wonderful families," He said, then turned his attention to Ariel's mother. "it is truly an occasion to be here with your family, Sarah."
She gave a genuine smile, and raised her wine glass. "To family,"
Everyone joined in unison with their glasses held high.
Just as Ariel's mom was about to take a sip, she let out an excited squeal.
Everyone froze, looking at her.
"I'm sorry Eli- I just can't wait any longer." She looked around the table, and slowly finished her statement. "Eli and I are going to be getting married."
