Hello, everyone! Thanks for reading my rather mediocre story! This is my first fanfic, so bear with me as I blubber through this. There'll be bad parts for sure, but just keep reading and I'm sure you'll find something to like!...I hope!

Disclaimer: I don't own Sword Art Online.

Inspiration comes from An Accident in Time; if you like this, you should definitely read it!

EDIT: This is getting a major overhaul. Any similarities (or, at the very least, most of them) to An Accident in Time (seriously, read it, it's great!) should be eliminated this time around (hopefully). It was never my intention to copy Festus Flare, nor anyone. I apologize for any confusion.

I adjusted my fedora, looking on with a glint in my eye as the monstrosity of a machine stood before me, waiting to be powered on by my dad, Kirigaya Kazuto. Yes, the one from Sword Art Online. The upside to that is I got a lot of gaming as a kid. So, as I was saying...

I wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans, scanning the giant dome of a room I was standing in. Floor-to-ceiling panes of bulletproof glass lined the area; behind, I could see a bunch of scientists working on a bunch of complicated machinery, hands flying as they typed out complicated strings of code.

I met the eyes of my mom (if you guessed she was Asuna of SAO, congratulations! You get a cookie), who smiled at me, half-encouragingly and half-apprehensively. It took me long hours of convincing my parents to finally get me cleared for this excursion through time, but I was ready.

Or, at least, I thought I was.

The machine began to hum as a single point of light appeared in the center. A large ring sat in the center with a bunch of wires and monitors spouting text setting off from it.

My dad's voice came on over the intercom, echoing weirdly in the dome space. "We have no idea where this worm hole will put you. Just remember that the return portal will open 15 minutes after you first arrive. It will continue appearing at that interval for 24 hours." I simply nodded in reply. "And"-his voice took on a fatherly tone-"do not go anywhere, for any reason, unless your life is in danger and you must return to the portal at a later time. This is just a test, understand?"

Of course it wasn't the first test. We'd sent a bunch of robots out, programmed simply to move back into the portal when it reappeared. There was a 95% success rate. Of course it was the 5% that worried my parents, and, for that matter, everyone, but I knew chances were I'd make it.

Of course, I reflected as the point of light expanded to slowly fill the ring, the main character always gets the worst end of every deal, doesn't he?

The universe answered that for me shortly after I appeared on the other side of the wormhole.

A/N: Welp, that's the end of the prologue. Thanks for reading, and luckily I've got Chapter 1 already ready! Hopefully Chapter 2 will be up soon as well, so you won't have to suffer the cliffhangers too long. *evil laugh* All (positive and/or helpfully critical) reviews are accepted, so please submit one! I'd love to hear feedback on my story - let me know what I'm doing well at, badly at, or just saying you like the story. Either way, I'll be perfectly fine with a review, and as I fumble my way through my first fanfic and trying to figure out this website (I think I'm probably hopeless ^_^), I'll make sure to respond to every review I possibly can.

^ Wow that's a long paragraph, sorry 'bout that. Basically, please review, thanks for reading, Chapter 2 out soon, blah blah blah. Just head to Chapter 1 already! - No, you don't have to, but you want to. You know you do. ;)
