I own nothing. This is just a fluffy little one-shot I wrote to try and help myself get over some writers block.

"No, Father you don't get a say in this!" Draco yelled loudly trying to get his father to understand that he was going to marry Hermione even if his father didn't approve.

"Draco she is not a Pureblood and I will not have you sully the long line of Pureblood Malfoy's!"

"That's true Mr. Malfoy, I am not pureblood."

"Hermione, please don't" Draco pleaded

"I'm not a Pureblood, but do you know what I am?" she plowed on not giving in to Draco's warning. Lucius Malfoy and his son had been having this conversation, or similar ones, in front of her for the past two years that she and Draco had been together. She had sat quietly during all the other ones believing it to be a family matter, but now she was going to be a part of the family, as soon as she married Draco, and she wasn't going to let this man take that away from her.

"And what's that?" he asked as he stared at her, she felt the eyes of Draco, Narcissa, and Severus Snape on her as she spoke. Of course they had to have this conversation during the family dinner.

"I am a muggle-born witch. I am not smart in the way of pureblood customs, but I am smart in the way of muggle customs. I don't fit into elite society, but I have connections with half of these people that make yours seem amateur. I don't know ancient family magic, but all the magic I do know I can do flawlessly. I'm not of high standing, but I am a war hero and that comes with a certain way to get what I want. I am not an item and I refuse to be treated like one, because I am a woman with morals. I am not rich, but I am a person who gets what she wants no matter what, or who, is standing in her way. Do you know what I want Mr. Malfoy?"

"What?"

"Your son and full access to your family library and I assure you I will get it. You see for everything you may say that I'm not, there is something nobody can doubt that I am." Hermione stared into the older man's eyes for a few moments before he smirked and began to eat again.

"So when is the wedding?" he asked surprising everyone at the table with the exception of Hermione who smiled.

"We were thinking a winter wedding." She replied

"That is an interesting choice, though I am wondering if you plan to freeze with an outdoor ceremony or just like the sentimentality and are planning indoors."

"What is going on here?!" Draco asked shocked.

"Son, I simply don't want you to marry a pushover. I know from reputation that Miss. Granger is not one but I wanted to see if she was planning on running from a disagreement simply to keep as much peace as possible within our family. I was simply baiting her." Lucius explained "I also have noticed that she seems very respectable for waiting until she is technically part of the family before getting involved in these little discussions of ours and it has earned my approval. Honestly Draco, that war was years ago and I never truly held many prejudices as you now know after witnessing my trial, I thought you would pick up that I was simply testing her all this time. After all, if I didn't approve of your choice she never would've been able to enter the manor before dying a most painful death." Draco blinked twice before speaking.

"We were planning on doing the wedding outside and implementing warming charms into some wards to put around the tent." He replied as he went back to eating his food. The other two members of the dinner party went back to their food as well without as much as a comment on what had just transpired. It was after all a normal occurrence.
