Chapter 1 - Godmother
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
The beeping of the alarm clock caused Natasha Romanoff to bolt upright, grab her gun, from the little wooden bedside table, and shoot it. She groaned and then flopped back down. All of a sudden the bedroom door swung open to reveal a wide eyed Steve Rogers holding a bat.
"What was that?" Steve shouted his dirty blonde hair ruffled from sleep.
"Relax I just shot the alarm clock," Natasha replied casually. Steve continued to stare at her in disbelief.
"It was a reflex," Natasha smirked. Steve put down the bat and went out closing the door behind him and mumbling something about waking him up so early.
As Natasha groggily got up, and out of bed, JARVIS withdrew the cream curtains to reveal a window which spanned the length of the room. Natasha walked over and looked out at the view. It was truly magnificent, despite the fact that the city was still trying to get back on its' feet. After the Avengers had defeated Loki they decided to stay, at Stark Tower, to help rebuild NYC. All the gang were there except for Thor and Loki as they were in Asgard waiting for Loki's trial.
Natasha made up her bed and changed into a pair of black skinny jeans, black pumps and a red shirt. She walked down the hallway, down the stairs, through the glass doors and into the big and bright kitchen.
"Morning Nat," Bruce said cheerfully waving the wooden spoon as he lent over a frying pan.
"Morning smells good in here," Natasha replied smiling.
"Yeah, Banner makes quite the cook," Clint said as he poured himself some apple juice.
"What was that noise just now?" Pepper asked Natasha quizzically, as she folded her newspaper and set it down on the marble counter.
"Natasha shot her alarm clock again," replied Clint so matter-of-factly.
"Oh ok," Pepper shrugged.
"Breakfast's ready," Bruce yelled.
Everyone went and grabbed plates and cutlery and started to help themselves to eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beans and toast. The smell was heavenly. Just as Natasha was about to sit down JARVIS spoke.
"Sir, Director Fury is at the door for you."
"Yep I got it!" Tony yelled back. About 10 seconds later Fury and Tony were walking up the stairs towards the kitchen.
"Pardon me for interrupting," Fury began, "but I need to talk to Agent Romanoff alone."
"Oh ok," Natasha said slightly surprised. Natasha and Fury went out into the hallway.
"This arrived for you this morning. I'm bringing it you personally. It's from her," Fury spoke softly because he knew how much this would damage her. Natasha had a worried look on her face as she slowly took the creamy white envelope from Fury. Her hands started to tremble. Fury rarely saw Natasha like this and he didn't like it when one of his assassins was scared. It wasn't right. Natasha tore open the envelope with her fingernail and started to frantically read the letter.
"Oh my God," the words barely escaping her lips, "When did she die?"
"2 days ago in Brazil," Fury said quietly.
"What's happened to her daughter? WHO DID THIS TO HER!" Natasha started to yell.
"Natasha please, calm down," Fury said in his calm and unwavering voice, "S.H.I.E.L.D have tracked her down. She's in London."
Natasha nodded slowly.
"I'll give you 24 hours to decide what you are going to do. Did you know that you were her godmother? "Fury asked
"No, I had no idea," Natasha sighed in exasperation as she ran a hand through her red wavy hair.
"What are you going to do?" Fury asked.
"I'm going to get her and hunt down the people who did this to her mother," Natasha replied.
